(Same review left on yelp) Drove all the way from Bloomington, Indiana to visit a friend and we were so excited to try this restaurant because we remembered it being so good. However, this food was terrible. We were told we were served fried catfish and I don’t believe that’s what we got. Outside of that you can tell the fish had been sitting, it wasn’t hot. The macaroni was also bland as well. I went and asked the waiter what fish we had been served and she said it was catfish. I’m not sure what was going on but $20 was wasted and this food went in the trash.

Worst $20 I’ve spent in a long time and I’ve been a huge fan and advocate of this restaurant for over a decade.
I went in early right after they opened around 1130 am, thinking I would be given fresh made food, however, I’m pretty sure I was given left over food, reheated and presented for a new day. Spaghetti is literally runny and more like soup with noodles and these smothered pork steaks that I was craving are the driest I’ve ever been served. Sweet potatoes taste fresh but lack seasoning.
It’s been years since I visited and I was excited to experience a piece of my old neighborhood, but this was awful and I’m not sure I’ll be giving them another chance. Hopefully they were just having an off day, but these are the days people remember so, best of luck to them

Try to support black business but this place needs to be out of business at this point. I worked 10 hours anticipating to get what I ordered just to get home after their business hours and the plate was not correct. Then the manager wants to go back and forth about what they charged me vs what was written on the box when clearly you see two 50 cent charges on the receipt for greens I never got and $2.75 for a extra side of Mac that they took out a Kraft box and threw cheese on top of. Straight disgusting and disappointing. Never again. Let’s get this place shut down since they don’t appreciate the black dollar!

You would think it’s a church full of people waiting in line for a meal after service bc ppl from church seemed to be waiting on a very long line and ppl didn’t care to wait bc the food is home style. The line was long like 60 people ahead of us so clearly this place does food right. Staff were nice and so were the customers. Everyone today were dressed in their Sunday best (it is Sunday today 5/25/25). This is in The Austin neighborhood where there’s a mix of rehabbed homes and old homes from the late 1800s. The inside of the place could use a little updating w lights and furniture. But they have a free parking lot and plenty of street parking.

Omg I’ve been coming to this place for yearsss but man I can’t anymore. Starting off with the food, it is amazing but the workers are a headache. This restaurant is the closest thing you can get to a normal home cooked meal and is great for times you feel lazy but still want something of substance. They’re very affordable and reasonable and the proportions are nice. The parking lot is tiny but it’s only amplified on Sundays. But the real issue is them nasty, funky, ugly attituded workers (except for Glo she’s lovely and the owner is a gentleman) other than that the staff has nasty, bitter dmv kind of attitudes. They tower over the counter like huge bouncers at a club and speak to you as if you’re a bother. I also notice they inconsistently ask for id to match the card you purchase with. You’ll stand in line and watch the person in front of you purchase without being asked for any form of identification then you’ll get to the counter and they’ll ask you. Moral of the story although the restaurant in itself is good like most businesses the staff is who runs away the customers. Also I know this is petty but I hate how hard they work the women but the male staff never appears to be doing anything but that’s just me worrying about things that have nothing to do with me .

Line was to the back but was moving fairly quickly. With that being said, you get the slightest feeling of being rushed by the entree choice girls. Then, by the time you get to the dessert girl, you have to hear the staff talk about their nights before. The meats, sweet potatoes, and barley the greens are well seasoned and taste good. But them other sides lol you better be packing some Mrs. Dash and Slap ya mama. But you get plenty for the money and that’s always a blessing.

My family n I was there for a funeral down the street. They use to go containers not plate. But it is not post that it is a charge for this. I spend 112.00 for 5 people when I look at the receipt there is a 50 cent charge after the charge for the meal. If u r using a togo container just POST IT

MacArthur’s is amazing. I appreciate the staffs and managers kindness to me even though I have autism and their food is amazing and really good. Owner Mac and Sharon and manager Tina/Tyrese is very nice. The restaurant is in good condition. Amazing Southern food. Must come back. 10/10.

The service is utterly terrible! I was a frequent visitor of this restaurant and recently visited last week… it’s almost like they deliberately hire employees with the worst attitudes. No one smiles, no nice greetings, etc… and the cashier is absolutely the most rudest of them all. Always rude and nasty every time I visit. Nevertheless, I still raved about this Westside staple (for their good food and decent prices) as I visited with an out of town guest- but I was completely embarrassed. The service was so bad that they refused to eat their food. We ended up discarding the food and going to another restaurant.
