The first Macado’s restaurant was opened in 1978 by Richard Macher in downtown Roanoke, Virginia. It soon became popular for its eclectic ambiance of cartoon, antique, and local nostalgic decor, as well as its wide array of hearty yet modestly-priced sandwiches, subs, and entrees. Popular with the college crowd, the restaurant opened additional locations near Virginia Tech, Radford University, and Roanoke College. Locations were added at the rate of one or two per year, including those in neighboring West Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee. Met a friend for lunch while in town for the holidays. We got a table right away. It got busier while we were there bit because it was a nice day people were sitting outside. Our server was great and I really enjoyed the bowl of chili I had.

Service was absolutely terrible. Waited for 30+ minutes and never saw the server. After we did see her she brought us the wrong food (she didn’t know where others food went either) and she would walk up to the table without saying a word and take plates. Never once checked on us or asked how the food was. As far as timing once we placed our actual order didn’t take long- the server just simply didn’t know what she was doing (or didn’t care)
Food: the fried pickle spheres (when we actually got them) were 5 spheres on top of two random tortilla chips. They were burnt, and to be honest tasted like a wet cucumber with burnt flour around it- not at all up to the hype.
The sandwiches were not good- no one at our table enjoyed them and many of us left them less than half eaten. The meat seemed like it had been sitting out for a while… The chips are good though!
The environment is chill and the bar area is nice- but this place def needs to work on their actual dine in service. Kinda trashy but Has potential tho.

My daughter and I went last night at 730 pm. The place had very few tables. We ordered an appetizer, a burger and boneless wings. It to over an hour to get our food, the appetizer came after our food which turned out to be 2 pretzels and a small bowl of cheese. My food was cold and burnt, my daughter got her fries first because the server dumped her food on the floor. The servers excuse was they only have 2 cooks. Ok, it shouldn’t take an hour to make a burger, some wings and 2 pretzels. The place was not busy.
It became very loud at 9pm due to the entertainment being Karaoke. We asked for boxes and check, our server disappeared, we had to go hunt her down to pay our bill. She actually said she was busy with 7 tables and pinky swore she would be right back. In total, we were there for 2 1/2 hours. Food was cold and terrible, service was abhorrent. And we gave her a chance as my daughter is a server. This is my 2nd time here and will not go back. 60 bucks for a burger, iced tea, boneless wings, a soda and pretzels, not including tip, I would expect better.

I picked up a lunch order for my dad and I today and dad’s order was perfect…
Mine, sliced steak with provolone on french…. I instead got a hamburger on french, and it’s not even fresh beef, this was a frozen soy patty that you see in fast food places!!! Almost $20 plus tax & tip, for this. I’ve ordered the same thing for years from Macaroons…ALWAYS PERFECT!!
I called to inform them of the mistake and ask for it to be corrected, not only whomever answered the phone but she put the manager on, the one who made it she said, they both said it’s correct. Any intelligent adult can distinguish the difference between a soy burger patty and sliced steak!!! I’m so disappointed in Macadoo’s…. This is/was one of my favorite local spots….
The lady who answered the phone stated that I have not been the only person to call with this exact issue recently, seems as if they would correct the issue instead of losing customers and getting negative reviews

Ate there 8/24/25 Sunday afternoon for the first time. Not crowded but had to wait to be seated, no one at front counter. Sat down and server took our order. Took awhile to get our water and about 35-40 minutes to get our food. Food was great but service was slow and as I said, not crowded. My wife had to eat a few bites and took the rest with her due to having to go to work and waiting so long. Server was not very friendly. We will go back but hopefully the wait won’t be as long.

My daughter and I were very pleased with the spinach dip appetizer but that was all we were able to enjoy. She ordered the Stogie and sweet potato fries-the fries were ice cold. I ordered the pastrami Reuben and the meat was scorched black! Sharon, our waitress, offered to bring us a refill when she left our entrees, but she never returned with them so we couldn’t complain about the food.
Once we stood to leave, several minutes later, she then came to the table and inquired if anything was wrong. I told her we were VERY disappointed in the meal and her service-she had brought two other tables drinks-not ours. She said she’d get the manager and walked off. Again, she was gone a long time, returned with no manager but she had to-go cups. Needless to say it was a disappointing experience when we were so looking forward to it. Sharon is NoT to blame for the poor entrees, she still received a tip as she was one of only three wait staff. Check #34

So hey folks, here we go again so me and my wife went to Kingsport Tennessee yesterday and we visited the quaint little downtown that needs a lot of work still and more restaurants and a few breweries so we ended up at this Mexican place called Mercados. Everything looked nice. we went in and sat at the bar, we ordered two Michelob draft ultras the bartender was socializing with a lot of the other patrons and we noticed that people that were there before us are still waiting on Food but finally the bartender came and took our order. I ordered a chili dog that comes with fries, chili, onions, and coleslaw, and I had slaw on the side my wife had an Italian sub that was heated and she opted for the mixed fruit. The mixed fruit was old, but the real problem was we were there for almost an hour before food came out. My fries came first they were cold. She took them back and then my hotdog came and my wifes sandwich And fruit came the hotdog and chili were cold so I told her they were cold as well and then we told her we were there for over 45 minutes before we got our food and she went into the kitchen and when she came back they comped our meals, so we paid for four beers, which was fair, do I recommend it? They have serious problems with the food coming out. There was a booth that was there way before we came in and 45 minutes after we ordered their food came so somethings going on in the kitchen if you set at the bar you may get bad service, sorry but that’s just the way we saw it. Served $14 warm pretzels frozen. They apologized, said the manager would make it right, went back, microwaved them and then brought them back apologizing and stating they warmed them up. We had eaten off of these. So yall took food that was eaten off of, brought it back into a kitchen, heated it in brought it out. I could taste the burnt grease on the wings. Couldn’t get our drink order right FOUR times. The $10 fries was a tiny amount of freezer burned crinkle fries with canned nacho dip slopped on it. We had to get our own napkins and silverware. We came because of multiple glowing reviews from friends and we will NOT be back. Got our check and got charged full price. Kids cup was supposed to light up and we were told they’d never seen those before. We truly would have saved money and had a better experience going to McDonalds.

It took my husband forever to finally meet with a manager to discuss the issues. The manager was AVOIDING HIM HE HAD TO GO UP TO THE KITCHEN! There were 2 other small groups here. They were not busy whatsoever. Manager kept trying to give us a gift card – no way.

Alrighty, let me start this off by saying I work in a restaurant, so maybe my standards are a little higher than most people when it comes to sitting down at a restaurant and eating but nontheless, this has to be some of the worst service I have ever received.
First of all, my family and I had to wait seven minutes before someone even came up to the host stand so we could get seated, and it’s not like they finally came up or noticed us on cameras, I had to CALL THE RESTAURANT and tell them we were at the host stand and had been waiting for someone to seat us. I have never in my life had to call a restaurant to let them know of my presence; that is absolutely ridiculous. Like what?? After the host tells us that she was sorry about the wait she basically throws the menus on the table and runs away before we can even get to the table.
Our second issue was with the speed of service. It took absolutely forever for everything. It should not take seven minutes for drinks, it should not take thirty minutes for an appetizer, nor an HOUR AND TWENTY MINUTES FOR FOOD. Do NOT come here if you are in a hurry. Also!! We were the only people here when we first sat down, and one of three when we finally got our food, so it was not as if the kitchen nor servers were slammed. The restaurant was dead, they were just being lazy. Its not exactly inviting when you see your server goofing off and on her phone at the bar when youre not being served.
Now don’t get me wrong, the food was wonderful (other than them forgetting I wanted no tomatoes and taking FOR FREAKING EVER) but that’s quite literally the only positive. I do not recommend coming here. It’s to the point where im waiting for my server to come get the check (which is taking forever, like everything else, perhaps I should just leave) and writing this review. Such a shame. Hope they get better workers.
