The first Macado’s restaurant was opened in 1978 by Richard Macher in downtown Roanoke, Virginia. It soon became popular for its eclectic ambiance of cartoon, antique, and local nostalgic decor, as well as its wide array of hearty yet modestly-priced sandwiches, subs, and entrees. Popular with the college crowd, the restaurant opened additional locations near Virginia Tech, Radford University, and Roanoke College. Locations were added at the rate of one or two per year, including those in neighboring West Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee. Macado’s just recently opened its newest location in Winchester, Virginia. The already-lengthy menu has been changed and expanded over the years, and several events have grown in popularity, such …

I’m not trying to put a bad name on a place, me and my wife used to love going to the various macadoos. Upon having complications with orders at the Galax (green chicken) and now the Radford (mold in chicken) locations I would just like to inform others. My now 3rd trimester wife and I suspect she might have ate moldy chicken. There are no herbs in the breading and the ingredient list for the frozen chicken was given to us by the manager and does not list them either.

Ordered online these fries were so Burnt and obviously cooked in oils that wasn’t changed recently. Asked for extra ranch when my boyfriend called in the order and didn’t receive any. I ate most of them only because the order was 16$ and this was supposed to be dinner

Came in here after a long morning full of appointments. The hostess greeted us kindly and asked us where’d we like to sit and choosing the bar before noon she might of thought we were rowdy but far from, just hungry. We got seated, the waitress took our drink orders and fair warned us that catering was being completed so there might be a bit of a wait. We ordered our lunch specials nonetheless and the wait was not much of one at all. If they hadn’t of warned me I wouldn’t of noticed but it was so considerate that I got a heads up! I mentioned we would be splitting our orders to share in the foodie greatness and the server ensured a fork for each to enjoy our macaroni salad. Our total with 2 lunch specials and 2 Michelobs equalled $31.06. I’ll pay $40 any day for food and drinks made to order exactly how we ask. Thank you so much for being a place for people to go to take a load off! Stay awesome Macado’s Radford Crew!

I’m not one to leave a bad review, but I Ordered a salad and asked for grilled chicken. The server came out with chicken salad in a salad. When asked about the mistake I was told the manager said that’s the way the salad comes. No asking if I wanted something else, just here you go like it or not. Also ordered a bowl of chili, waited a little longer for it to come out cold…. I had high hopes it would be good because of the atmosphere, but nope. Will not return and the management needs to learn customer service.

Macado’s has a fun atmosphere and a huge menu with something for everyone, which keeps me coming back. Like anywhere, the service can be a bit hit or miss at times, but if you’re lucky enough to have Matt as your server, you’re guaranteed a great experience. He’s attentive, friendly, and consistently makes sure everything is right without being overbearing. When Matt’s taking care of your table, the meal goes smoothly every single time. Overall, Macado’s is a solid spot, and having the right server truly makes all the difference.

I had a great experience here. I had a sandwich which was delicious and promptly delivered to our table. The staff was warm and welcoming. It was midday, so the atmosphere was very chill. Clean establishment.

I am unsure how else to address this at this point, but the consistency of the issues we have experienced needs to be documented.
We genuinely enjoy Macado’s and have been long-time supporters. I personally spent years in food service management and fully understand the challenges involved in running a restaurant. That said, our orders have been incorrect nearly every time we have ordered. This has occurred approximately thirty times and has become a recurring pattern rather than an isolated issue.
The situation has reached a point where the manager is familiar with our roommate solely because she has had to return incorrect food so frequently. Today, which was her birthday, the only thing she wanted was Macado’s. Unfortunately, once again, nearly every item in the order was incorrect.
What was most concerning was the response from management. The manager acknowledged that our orders have been wrong “at least the last seven times,” yet then stated that we are “the only people who complain.” He further suggested that we should call ahead in the future and identify ourselves so the order would not be made incorrectly.
That response is troubling. Every order should be prepared with the same level of care and attention, without requiring special identification to ensure accuracy. While I understand the pressures facing restaurants today, this level of repeated error combined with dismissive handling is unacceptable, particularly from a management standpoint.
We genuinely want to continue supporting this location, but the ongoing pattern and the response from management make that increasingly difficult.
The manager offered us a $100 gift card (yes it’s that bad) and we declined. Farewell Macados, it was a good 20 year run.

We came in at 12:45 pm and it wasn’t too busy when we arrived. We asked to be seated in the area with the tvs so we could watch football while we were there. We ordered our food, which was 2 burgers, and some boneless wings they had on special. It took about 45 minutes to get our food, and when it came out, our wings were barely room temp. the food was good other than that. Our server was slow about getting refills, but he seemed to be waiting on a few different tables. He just never really seemed to get in any kind of hurry. But he was nice and we had a good visit.

Wasn’t busy at all so you would think service would be great but no, bartender was not around took forever to get one drink, When they did come back, we had to ask for everything they were not checking on us. Last time I went the bartender was so busy on her phone playing video games. I actually took a picture.. I would hate to think that I was the owner of this place. Shame on MANAGEMENT. Food was terrible, This place won’t be around long if things don’t change. Sad to say !

Wonderful American food establishment. We stopped by while visiting a good friend and I was intrigued by the fried pickle spears on the online menu. Very few restaurants offer spears. Normally only flaccid pickle chips.
We had a party of three and we decided to sit at the bar. We were greeted by the bartender Ari who was so appealing with her exceptional service and inviting charisma. We made a special request with a custom cocktail recipe and she nailed it with ease.
The food came swiftly, hot, and fantastic! The pickle spears were so good, in my top 3 of all time. I also ordered the Bang Bang Shrimp Tacos (Ari’s recommendation) and they were top notch, top 2 of all time.
We are going back for karaoke at 9 for some more good times. Make this a stop if you want some mouthwatering food, exceptional service, and good vibes.
