This unassuming market and deli is the delight you didn’t expect to find in Poncha Springs. The friendly staff, no frills, quality ingredients, and gorgeous mountain views is all you need. My buddy got the deli sandwich and I got the breakfast burrito. We were both satisfied! Great after a morning of skiing ⛷️

We popped in for a quick lunch while utilizing the supercharger next door. It’s definitely a mix between ~dive bar mom n pop gas station diner~ It feels a lil grimy, and I wouldn’t want to sit on anything cushioned. With very little effort (ie just cleaning up a bit) this could be such a cute place. There are two tables and 4 barstool spaces. If you sit at the “bar” you’re right in front of the washrooms. That being said, the food was really tasty albeit on the pricey side. We ordered a club sandwich, Reuben, and fries. Sandwiches were about $14.50 and adding fries and a medium drink is $4.50 extra (their sign says half orders are available). So when my fries came out room temperature I immediately asked for fresh fries. The guy behind the counter complied with no issue, and it didn’t take long for the new fries to come out. They were super hot and nice n crispy, soooo much better than the first batch. My husband ate his Reuben so quickly I couldn’t even get a picture. The club was fresh, a large portion, and very tasty. Perfect after a long drive. The Diet Pepsi seemed a bit watered down, so with my refill I went full sugar and it was much better. They make everything fresh so we did wait maybe 10-15 mins for food, but once we got it I was happy we waited. Overall Mabel’s food was great, but if you’re after a cute space and vibes, I’d probably suggest heading into Salida for some better options.

Packed house for a reason! The sandwiches are made fresh to order and are big portions with great topping options.
You can also grab smothered tamales (try them with an egg!) or fries.
The people are kind and working hard and fast to meet the demand. Don’t miss out!

Must have been 5 years ago that I brought home a couple of cheese steaks from Mabel’s Deli, and my husband and I loved them. Finally had the chance to return this week, and the cheese steak did not disappoint. The sandwiches here are made to order with fresh ingredients, on a real diner-style grill — not a franchise sub operation where pre-cooked ingredients are thrown onto a roll and heated up for 30 seconds. So there may be a small price difference, but a giant night-and-day difference in quality and taste!
If you’re anywhere near the Hwy 285/50 area (Salida/Poncha Springs), visit the Poncha Market next to the gas station, and you’ll find Mabel’s Deli inside. And while you’re there, check out the candy and treats from Maggie’s Candy Kitchen…handmade fudge, brittle, pizzelles, and more. They’ll be on my “must take home” list for next time, along with more of those delicious Mabel’s sammiches!

I stopped here on a long drive. The meatball sub was hands down the best I ever had. The staff is friendly and service was fast. The bathrooms were also very clean.

You better be sitting down if you get the reuben, the flavor will make you weak in the knees! My absolute favorite sandwich, I’ll stop in every time I pass through town, the cooks remember my face and I don’t have to order, they see me and know what to make! Don’t let the run down gas station keep you from trying the deli, the food is worth it. Thanks guys! I’ll be back in soon.
