I am so happy I discovered MJ’s Polish Deli! I recently stopped in and had a wonderful experience. I picked up some mortadella, authentic Polish sausage, and their Polish cucumbers, and everything was absolutely fantastic and fresh.
The customer service was top-notch—the two women working were incredibly kind, patient, and helpful with my selections. It’s rare to find such a welcoming atmosphere where the staff genuinely cares about their customers. I will definitely be a regular here from now on, and I will be recommending this place to all of my American and Serbian friends! If you’re looking for the real deal, this is the place to go.

Yes I have an Italian last name thanks to my dad. But my love for authentic polish food came from my 100% polish mother and of course my grandmother. So when I tell you this little polish deli is great believe me I have years of experience… tasting authentic polish food…. Their pierogies nail it every time! I will admit that I need to try more soups and other shelf stable items, but I generally come here on a mission for wedding sausage. My Grandpa had been making his borscht (egg and sausage based) for decades when his preferred brand was bought out and changed their recipe. He searched the region far and wide and found this local gem. I have a big extended family, and for decades, my Grandpa would stock up on their smoked Wedding sausage – it hangs proudly on the wall, and I was delighted once to find they have a variety that has extra garlic! My grandparents dutifully would hand out links of sausage to their 7 children every Christmas for as long as I could remember, and when I still lived at home with my parents, it was always such a treat to have it for dinner with pierogies or to try out best to replicate Grandpa’s borscht, saving him a bowl to see if it ‘passed’ the taste test. This sausage was key! The year my Grandpa passed, I got to take my Granny to MJ’s to help her haul the annual stock of sausage back home. She was tearful in telling the owner’s about my Grandpa’s passing, saying, “Your ‘friend’ is no longer with us.” The woman behind the counter held back tears, and I never once thought that, in my adult life, I would be crying with my Granny over polish sausage, but it’s more than that – it’s a tradition and a way of remembering my Grandpa and the love he put into making his borscht – and being very selective about his ingredients as he grew up in Poland – and sharing it with everyone he cared about. From my family to yours, thank you for your decades of business!

We have been ordering food from MJ Deli since we moved to Munster seven years ago. Every Christmas, my entire family cannot stop bragging about how amazing everything is. Blintzes, pierogi, and uszka are incredibly delicious, and the dough is thin, just like in Poland. Of course, sauerkraut, red borscht, and mushroom soup are exceptional—made with fresh and high-quality ingredients. We are always on the lookout for an MJ stand at Pierogi Fest during the summer.

I had been craving my late grandmother’s cooking for several days. While taking a detour through Hammond I spotted MJ’s on Calumet Avenue and decided to drop in. I’m so glad I did!
The nice folks at MJ’s happened to have a batch of hot, fresh pierogi ready to eat. They were kind enough to package them up and I drove home eating possibly the best savory pierogi I’ve ever tasted (I don’t think my grandma would mind my saying so if she could taste these!) Between bites, I kept saying, “I can’t believe how good these are!”
It was a great, unexpected treat that really hit the spot for me. I will definitely make MJ’s a regular stop on my trips between Chicago and Fort Wayne.

Best Polish deli around. Paczki were fresh. Great deli meat selections as well as polish specialties. Strangely enough they have the best homemade potato salad in the region! Very friendly staff!
