The charbroiled oyster felt plump, which tells me it had never been frozen. In my experience, freezing oysters turn them mushy and gritty once cooked. But this one had that perfect soft snap you only get from fresh shellfish.
The crab cakes were solid too. You could actually taste the sweet, briny flavor of real crab rather than the filler that some places sneak in. The sauce tasted surprisingly like lobster bisque—rich, buttery, a little smoky even. It complemented the crab without overpowering it, which made the whole thing feel a bit fancier than your average crab cake appetizer.
The rockfish was delicious. The texture was tender but still had that flaky firmness that shows it was cooked just right, not overdone. It had a clean, almost ocean-sweet flavor, which again comes down to freshness and good handling.
I also liked how the restaurant listed the fish origins on their daily catch menu. It adds a layer of trust—you can tell they care about transparency and sourcing, which probably explains why everything tasted so vibrant and pure. It’s nice when the menu reads like a short story from the sea instead of a mystery.
Sorry fellow beer enthusiasts: it’s a no for me on the beer menu.
The food was okay, and our waitress was nice and friendly. But our only issue, which I actually thought was kind of funny, was with the cheesecake. We ordered a slice, and part of it was missing. The tip of the slice, about an inch or so, was just gone.
My wife noticed it and said it was not right to serve cheesecake like that, since the slice looked incomplete. It was missing the tip, like a piece had broken off or something. So we told our waitress.
When she came back, she said they had found the little piece of cheesecake and added it back to the slice. That actually made it even funnier. If Lure is supposed to be a high-end restaurant, could they not have just given us a complete slice? Maybe a new one?
Instead, they found the missing tip and just added it back to the cheesecake.
It was funny to us. I do not know if that was the right or wrong way to handle it, but if I were running a nice restaurant like Lure Fish, I would have brought out a new slice of cheesecake instead of finding the missing piece and putting it back.
As for me, I was okay with it and did not really care, but my wife said she was going to complain. And yet, here I am, the one writing a review. It actually made us laugh a little. Still, because of it, it did affect the amount of tip I gave to our waitress. Also, we come to this restaurant often and we live in the Porter Ranch area.
Food 2.5-3/5 at best. Presentation on their food was good, attractive. However, that’s as good as it got. Shrimp appetizer had hair on it. Ceviche was tasty. Tortilla chips were a creative touch, though I wish they gave a bigger serving. Ciopinno and Sea bass (featured menu) were very disappointing. Taste wise, they were seasoned right Unfortunately, the fishes and the shrimp were overcooked. Shrimp was rubbery, and hard instead of being juicy. The fishes were extremely dry, instead of being plump and soft. Think reheated from last night kind of overcooked. It was absolutely a waste. Especially for a seafood restaurant, I expected to be wowed with very well seasoned and perfectly cooked seafood. It’s very disappointing and unfortunate to have a nice restaurant but fail on the food. Having grown up on an island, I’m very familiar with how perfectly cooked seafood should taste like. This place absolutely failed to deliver.
Ambiance 4.5/5 The place is huge. The decor is nice and inviting. Love the theme.
Service 4/5 The server was pleasant, though she could have paid more attention to basics like refilling water.
When he finally decides to come to the table he doesn’t introduce himself nor greet us just “you wanna start with something to drink or just two glasses of water” and I’m kinda taken aback usually you expect a server to suggest a happy hour cocktail or some upsell of sort even appz,we proceed to get a juice and a soda after 5 minutes and then he says
“have you ever been here before” and we say no and he just proceeds to walk away not even a response or any suggestions on what’s good just leaves us be. Further then waited another good 7 minutes for our drinks to hit the table and order to be taken. No sense of customer service whatsoever didn’t smile with any tables no bare minimum conversation either, almost as if he’s isn’t on the clock and we’re bugging him. We also had to ask for our own refills, I was waiting for malt vinegar but he never came to check if we needed something else, I was trying to get Managers attention but He was only looking one way when He took someone’s food at the bar, Going back to The Server then only when I called him over he asked ONCE how was everything and same thing when it came down to the check I had to wave him down. Anytime he brought refills or to go boxes even the check didn’t say anything would just hold it out waiting for me to take it from him. Super disappointed in his service, at the end of the day his position is customer service to make guests feel welcome and he fails miserably. With his attitude & work ethic we experienced he’s better off working in the back where he won’t have to deal with customer interactions. p.S He was busy but We noticed he gave Really bad service to everyone eating in the bar We felt bad for them.
