Lupes Taqueria: Your Go-To Stop for Authentic Mexican Flavor
Reviews
Food was the best I’ve had in Madison and Middleton. Meat was perfectly seasoned the guacamole delicious, I could taste all the individual flavors of meats beans, rice etc in my burrito which at other places its over powered by to much seasoning.
The portion was large and price excellent. Service was great, the owner is very friendly and knowledgeable.
Definitely give it a try!
Extremely limited menu. No enchiladas, no cactus, no Mexican soups/stews, & no ground beef. The asada (beef) is chopped pieces. My date did not prefer that style of beef, & I found bones in mine. Also, no hot drinks on the menu, not unusual for this type of place. The guy working there offered to make a coffee in the back for me, since they weren’t busy, but I was more interested in getting settled at a table with my date.
Ordering was somewhat difficult. There’s a lot of kitchen noise. And my date’s hearing isn’t great & they had a lotta trouble understanding 1 of the staff, speaking with a Mexican accent. I had to repeat everything for my date to understand.
Seems they have no menus, other than up on the wall, so we couldn’t sit down & peruse a menu to think about what we’d like to order.
We had: beef tacos; chicken tamale; & nachos with beef, beans, queso, lettuce, tomatoes & salsas.
The tacos were fine, except the ingredients didn’t seem to start off hot enough. The cheese barely melted & by the time you’re eating a 2nd taco, it’s no longer warm at all.
I do not recommend the tamales nor the nachos.
The tamale was more bread than meat, & the bread part seemed more like white bread versus corn meal. But only $3 for the little tamale, & it was served good & hot. Perhaps other people might like it just fine.
The nachos were not baked or heated at all. Just chips with toppings spread on top. Pools of liquid quickly formed on the nacho “plate”. (Everything is served in plastic baskets, lined with a piece of wax paper). The queso was too thin & separating? Or the beef, beans, or tomatoes were too juicy? It soon became a soggy mess. And I’m lucky I didn’t break a tooth on the beef bone pieces I found. Not sure if I swallowed any… if so, hopefully I won’t have problems from it, or it’s gonna turn out to be a very expensive meal.
About with the literal atmosphere… the kitchen & seating areas are open to each other. Makes it difficult to control air flow / exhaust. Fine particle food smoke was in the air, burning my eyes a little bit. Though my date wasn’t bothered by it. Not like from spicy food, just food smoke in general. It was a Saturday, but about 2 pm, not busy at all. Maybe they were doing a lot of cooking for a Saturday evening crowd.
Fresh and made to order…fantastic! 3rd visit and I got 3 soft tacos. Beef, chicken, and pork. Very good, as I expected!
Elizabeth was so patient too take my order explaining what was available as far meats go.Made the experience much better.
The food is consistently excellent. While I’ve worked my way through most of the menu over time, the Tacos al Pastor remain my absolute favorite – perfectly seasoned, authentic flavors, and always fresh. When I want something heartier, their burritos and burrito bowls never disappoint. The portions are generous, the ingredients are quality, and everything tastes like it’s made with care.
But what really sets Lupe’s apart is the ownership and service. The owner runs this place with remarkable professionalism and integrity. I experienced this firsthand a few years ago when I accidentally left something very valuable at my table after a particularly exhausting workday. When I realized my mistake and returned the next morning in a panic, the owner had already secured my item safely. Rather than just handing it over, he had me describe it in detail to verify I was the rightful owner – exactly the kind of careful, trustworthy approach you’d hope for but rarely see.
The personal touch doesn’t stop there. Whether I encounter the owner at the restaurant or around town, he always takes time to greet me warmly and ask about my family. It’s that genuine care for customers that transforms a good restaurant into a community staple.
The service is consistently friendly and efficient, the atmosphere is welcoming, and the value is outstanding. This is the kind of family-owned business that makes you proud to be a regular customer. If you haven’t tried Lupe’s yet, you’re missing out on both exceptional food and exceptional people.
Highly recommended!
