Reviews
With the usual warning that first time reviews always are impressions of the moment more than deep insights, we were impressed with the decor and atmosphere but underwhelmed with the food and service. Because we did not have an full meal, and the menu did look impressive, take this review with the understanding I may be the outlier here.
Started with the calamari appetizer. The dipping sauce, a sweet chili mix, was great. The calamari itself was chewy in that rubbery way. The breading was not interesting. Felt a little underwhelming. I would not order it again.
Then we split a margherita pizza, the real reason we tried the restaurant in the first place. It is featured as a specialty, and was very tasty. Unfortunately for the me, there was very little texture to the crust. The experience was a good pizza with no crust.
We both had an Old Fashion cocktail. Not bad, but far from great.
Overall I am not impressed by the whole experience. Of course, your experience may vary.
Finally a personal annoyance, they have a plate splitting fee policy. I get that it costs to serve a meal. But paying for a plate and silverware is a bit off-putting.
Dining there sort of feels like intrusion into the regulars space. Staff is all friendly and crummy with the regulars, while others are just there.
My pizza was overcooked, but I just left it as is, finished my beer, and called it a night.
The roasted chicken was very good and honestly they have one of the best tasting mashed potatoes. The garlic bread appetizer was delicious.
Overall, the atmosphere was great. We sat at the bar on a Saturday and showed up 5 minutes after 5pm when they reopen. I definitely recommend you make a reservation if you do not want to sit at the bar or risk not being able to get a seat by just showing up. It got full quickly, including the bar. The bartender was great, you definitely get what you pay for.
After dinner, we moved to the bar for a nightcap. I ordered a white wine spritzer and specifically asked for the least expensive white wine with club soda. I simply wanted a light drink with my soda water.
When the bill arrived, I was surprised to see a charge of $18.75, the same as an Aperol Spritz.
For reference, a full glass of white wine was $10.50, and a club soda was $4.50.
When I questioned the charge, the only response I received was, “That’s what we charge.”
What made the experience even worse was the dismissive, condescending attitude of the staff when I tried to get clarification. The owner was present but refused to offer any explanation.
Seems so unassuming driving by, but this is a gorgeous comfortable contemporary restaurant. Service was excellent, Lupe treated my wife and I like family.
Wine was excellent, and dinner was better than we could have expected. Prices were lower than we expected for the quality of our meals.
This is a real treasure; it’s only 5 minutes from our home in PVCC, and we cannot say enough about how outstanding our entire experaince was. They’ve made us customers for life ♥
