First time visit and I really fell in love with this a cozy charm right in front of the San Gabriel Mission!
The food, drink, and service…everything was so great! Definitely going back.
The owner was a Dodger fan too that was a huge bonus for me too!!

It was a great atmosphere. It was very quite even with other customers at tables nearby. I guess I’m used to music being played. The caldos were tasty with veggies and perfect for the cooler weather. Our server was friendly and efficient. We also enjoyed our margaritas.

Nice Mexican restaurant in the area, we came on a weekday near closing time so there is not a lot of people inside. Friendly service and very tasty food. We had the lengua and flautas plate. Both are excellent although the price is definitely on the higher end side.

Lunas is a fabulous place to for a date night or with friends. They serve their drinks in Loteria jarritos. ;o)
I’ve dined here several times with friends and the staff and service is great! Food is delicious. The atmosphere is cozy. There is street parking also plenty of free parking across and up the street.

Lunas is my go to destination every time I am in Los Angeles. I live in the east where Mexican food is not quite as sophisticated as in L.A. and I find myself wishing I could just drive down the street and enjoy the high quality food, excellent service and friendly staff and I especially love the atmosphere. The decor and ambience are exceptional (clearly the owners created an experience in dining with the fun and elegant vibe), and being located in the SG Mission district makes it all the more of an experience.
Another thing unique about Lunas is the menu which offers regional specialties that I have not found anywhere else. Hand crafted cocktails, excellent ambience, service and hand crafted food presented beautifully makes Lunas my favorite every time I am in L.A.- love to bring family and friends. The cost depends on addition of cocktails or not of course, and wait for table for me is usually not at all because I have the ability to come in off peak hours. They have additional outdoor seating with excellent service so the capacity is larger than it may look from outside.

Decent sit down Mexican restaurant if you’re looking for something nice next to the San Gabriel mission. Easy parking, though it gets busy during peak meal times. Very quiet area at night. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and has plenty of seating to spare. Food and drinks were expensive but high quality. Service was excellent, the staff was attentive and kind. Really liked the chicken mole—sauce was flavorful, and chicken was very tender. Their handmade corn tortillas were good but I’m not sure if it was worth the up-charge. Guac was a bit bland. Seems like your luck might depend what you order. Overall it was a nice experience for what it was, a fancier sit down restaurant serving quality Mexican food.

We arrived at the restaurant and there was no host or staff member available. After waiting about 3 minutes, we seated ourselves at a table of our choice since no one came to assist us. It took about 10 minutes to receive the menus, followed by another long wait to get our drinks and place our order. There was only one lady serving all the tables, and service was very slow. Our food arrived more than one hour after we got to the restaurant.

The food was very good overall; however, the ceviche did not include mango and avocado, which were supposed to be part of the dish. The restaurant was clean and visually nice, but the music playing contained bad language in Spanish. We were dining with children, and that felt inappropriate.

The restaurant is nicely decorated and it is in a old Spanish style building. We went there for lunch. The servers a nice and friendly but we were seated sat for a long time before we were given the menu. The chips and salsa were very good. We ordered steak medium rare and it came well done. The supposedly, 10 oz steak was so thin hardly taste like steak. Chili Rellenos was so eggy, cheesy, and tasteless. Shrimp Taco was average. Chicken burrito was alright it was a big burrito stuffed with rice and chicken, very filling.
When the bill came they changed service charge of 20% because as we were a party of 6. They also charged us 3.7% for paying with credit card. First of all the service didn’t deserve 20% service charge. Secondly, I never been charged extra for using credit card! Very disappointing!

This place is a GEM. if your looking for authentic Mexican food, look no further. The drinks are amazing. Great prices and the best part is the attentiveness the employees give. It’s a family vibe for sure. Great for parties and just a great hangout lounge at the bar. Beautiful location as well.
