Team Lunar clearly has a fantastic team. Big shout-out to the kitchen for keeping everything running smoothly during a busy Sunday. The baristas too even when it gets busy, they keep their focus and stay calm and chilled. They clearly know what they’re doing, and I looooove good baristas.
The seasonal special was really well balanced. I had the cold brew washed Rwanda with coconut and peach foam absolutely delicious and beautifully done.
I loved everything about this place and would 100% recommend it!
Thank you.
I’m still obsessed with it, and the meal was amazing. Sashimi was top notch. Atmosphere was warm and cozy, good for solo meals and group sessions.
I’ll keep coming back here and the cafe for sure!
Lunar by Hikari presents itself as a premium Japanese cafe with an extensive menu, from onigiri to donburi that really should be call a simple teishoku set. On paper everything is authentic, supported by an impressive collections of Japanese teas and matcha. The staff are attentive and genuinely friendly.
The matcha was excellent (unsweetened as it should be) delivering that earthy depth and creamy body that defines proper matcha. Paired with the sombre, ambient setting, it creates the perfect backdrop for a low-key premium brunch or dinner.
The donburi menu can be called a simple teishoku set, complete with pickles, salad, and a solid miso soup. Unfortunately that’s where the positives stop.
The Salmon Aburi Don lacked balance and execution. A proper aburi bowl needs seasoned rice (like sushi rice), a bright citrus lift (maybe yuzu kosho?), and a light brush of soy glaze to tie it together. This bowl? None of that. Without seasoning and contrast, it’s just bland. The ikura helped with texture, but it wasn’t enough to save the dish. On the hand the Wagyu Onigiri? Pretty good, the sweet beef paired well with the rice and crispy nori. Could get away without the Wagyu branding as it is really just beef masked with sauce.
Overall, the space feels welcoming and premium. The drinks deliver. The food however, falls short. The eclipse here isn’t lunar, It’s culinary.
Now about the most important part: the food.
Food is well presented. Portion is on the smaller side. Taste… to be honest there’s nothing wrong with the taste, they’re alright. It’s just… for each price level, people sort of have some level of expectation. Their food came underwhelming for the price range they’re asking. Again, they’re not bad, I’ve tasted much better and much worse food, they’re simply not meeting the level I was expecting for the price level. If their main menus are roughly $5 to $8 cheaper, I would have rated this place differently.
Their genmaicha was great though, that’s one order that didn’t feel underwhelming.
We ordered:
✅ Wagyu Sukiyaki Set Meal
✅ Pork Chasu Set Meal
✅ Coconut bloom – best coconut matcha I’ve had. Has a hint if jasmine flavour which I really enjoyed
Looking forward to coming back
