We were very warmly greeted by Fatima and seated immediately with thoughtfulness. We knew this was one of the top best restaurants in Minneapolis and it was easy to see why. Service by Sherwan was attentive and prompt — quiet and graciously smiling. He answered our questions about Sujuk — a spicy beef sausage we had not tried before.
I had the Sujuk eggs Benedict and my friend had the Shashuka. The flavors were outstanding harmony with the bread and the fresh vegetables that accompanied. I also had the Turkish coffee which came out beautifully presented. Everything was plated incredibly well and the price is $13 for the Benedict and $13 for the Shashuka were very reasonable. Lunch and dinner dishes are a little more expensive but based on what we saw: equally rich in flavor and lavishly beautiful.
The view from the window was probably the most appreciated especially as the snow started to come down. This was a very wonderful and memorable dining experience.
I had been craving real-deal Turkish / Middle Eastern / Persian flavors (the kind that make you close your eyes mid-bite ) and LUMI in Rochester absolutely delivered.
From the second we walked in, the vibe was on point. Warm velvet booths. Moody lighting. That subtle hum of conversation. It felt elevated but still welcoming – not stuffy, not overdone. Just cool.
We ordered a mix because obviously I cannot go somewhere like this and not sample everything.
The savory dishes? Authentic, layered, rich without being heavy. The kind of flavors that feel intentional and soulful.
My 13-year-old (who normally leans Lebanese when we go Middle Eastern) somehow lucked into a chicken Alfredo situation that was shockingly good. Like… creamy, comforting, but still elevated. Not your basic chain-restaurant version. She was thrilled.
But the moment. The real moment.
The rice pudding.
Served warm in a traditional clay dish with that lightly caramelized top and a generous shower of crushed pistachios. It wasn’t overly sweet just silky, nutty, comforting perfection. The kind of dessert that makes you slow down and savor.
And can we talk about the borek situation with the yogurt sauce? Flaky. Savory. Balanced. I could have eaten that entire tray and called it a day.
This place isn’t just “good for Rochester.”
It’s just good. Period.
If you’re anywhere near Rochester and you love bold, authentic Mediterranean / Middle Eastern flavors with a stylish, intimate atmosphere, go.
10/10. Would absolutely drive back for that rice pudding alone.
And honestly? Bringing my teenager and having her love it too? That might be the biggest review of all.
The service, however, was very disappointing. We had to serve our own water by grabbing a pitcher from a nearby table and still felt unattended. With only four people total in the restaurant, the lack of service was hard to understand. Great food, but the service really detracted from the experience.
I will definitely come back… i highly recommend this place!
