I only tried the tiramisu there, but it was excellent. The vibe was so cozy, and the waitress was extremely welcoming – she made our stay wonderful! It was great to see Luisa stop by our table to check in on us. We’ll definitely come back again!

One of the best Italian restaurants in the city and probably the best value Italian spot in the city.

Gnocchi was some of the best I’ve had in a minute. Lobster ravioli was also really good. Pizza honestly didn’t look the most amazing but man it tasted great. Tiramisu was a little underwhelming but still tasty, just a tad bitter and wish they didn’t use Hershey’s.

Would come back for sure.

This is hands down my favorite Italian restaurant and I don’t see that ever changing. Ever since my first visit, it has never disappointed me. The lasagna, penne pasta, and gnocchi are absolutely mouthwatering. Every bite is rich, comforting, and full of flavor. You can truly taste the love in the food. I love this place so much and highly recommend it to anyone visiting the city. I guarantee you will fall in love. The owner is incredibly sweet and welcoming, which makes the experience even more special

Hands down, this is my favorite Italian restaurant that I’ve been to in San Francisco so far. I thought I have had gnocchi before but omg when I tell you this gnocchi is so good, it’s better than any that I’ve ever had. The pasta I had was delicious and fresh as well. The sauces were CRAZY delicious and truly I’m not one to obsess over Italian food usually but it was so so yummy and memorable. The service was so kind. She let us try a few wines before deciding on the one we were going to get checked on us regularly, but not too much and it was just really really good service. Luisa her self was there as well sitting in a booth and it was really cool to see her just hanging out while I was enjoying her and her family’s delicious recipes. the ambience of the restaurant was so cute and quaint and I can’t wait to come back.

Luisa is a nice neighborhood gem offering traditional Italian home-cooking owned by a lovely lady. We tried a few apps, pastas, and finished off with dessert. Everything was delicious and reasonably priced especially for San Francisco. Some fav dishes included the parpadelle which was house made, burrata, and tiramisu for dessert. We all left completely full.

This was our first time dining here, and we’re already planning to come back! The food was absolutely delicious—every dish was bursting with flavor. The service was equally impressive; from the warm welcome by the hostess to the attentive waitstaff and talented kitchen team. Highly recommend!

Luisa’s is an excellent Italian restaurant. This restaurant is a real jewel in the Mission. I loved my Lasagna Fiorentina, which bested a lot of lasagna I’ve had in Italy over the years. The bread is house baked and too tasty. The garlic bread was even better, made of course from that delicious bread.
Luisa was at the restaurant greeting customers and watching over everything. She runs a tight ship, and the employees seem to adore her. I remember Luisa’s the restaurant when it was on Castro St. during the 80s. I always loved eating there. It was a joy to reminisce with her after all these years. And it’s amazing she is still going strong at 96!

An Unforgettable Evening at Luisa’s: Warmth, Authenticity, and a Signed Bottle!
Luisa’s Restaurant truly lives up to its reputation as a San Francisco gem. From the moment you step inside, you’re enveloped in an atmosphere that’s brimming with warmth, authenticity, and undeniable charm. It feels like walking into a beloved family home, filled with the aroma of incredible Italian cooking and the buzz of happy diners.
But the real highlight of my visit was getting to meet Luisa herself! She is an absolute delight – everything you’d expect from someone who has created such a remarkable establishment. Her passion and graciousness are palpable. She truly embodies the character of the place.
Speaking of highlights, I was incredibly fortunate to snag one of the bottles of wine that Luisa signed. It’s such a special keepsake and a testament to the personal touch that makes this restaurant so unique.
The food, of course, was fantastic. Every dish we tried showcased the freshest ingredients and the chefs’ clear passion for Italian cuisine. From the homemade pasta to the delicious pizza, it’s evident that every item on the menu is crafted with care.
Luisa’s isn’t just a meal; it’s an experience. It’s a place where you feel genuinely welcomed, where the food is incredible, and where the character of its owner shines through. I can’t recommend it highly enough!

From the moment we stepped in, I was struck by the atmosphere—warm, a little whimsical, and surprisingly transporting. The ceiling appeared to stretch endlessly with lights reflecting across cleverly placed mirrors, giving off a bit of that Disneyland magic. For a second, I actually felt like we might be in Italy.

Our waitress was lovely—genuinely kind and attentive, always greeting us with a smile and checking in at just the right moments. It was quiet for a Thursday evening, and we lucked out with a cozy window seat. Between the glow of the lights and our corner table banter, we probably looked like extras in a heartwarming movie about an old family-run trattoria.

The food? Solid. The cheesy pizza stole the show, but overall we weren’t floored. The meatball dish might deserve five stars on Yelp, but I’d call it a four-star Google Maps experience. Still, I’d definitely come back—especially with out-of-town guests who may prefer a more classic (and less chaotic) dining choice. I’ve got my eye on the carbonara next time.
