My daughter and I took my wife for lunch for her birthday. Good portions of food. My daughter and my wife had the sampler plates and I had the eggplant rollatani. We also had garlic knots and the garlic dipping oil. Kaylee was our waitress and she did an excellent job of serving us. I always appreciate good service and people that enjoy what they are doing. Overall 5 stars. Excellent, low price Italian food nestled away in La Coste. I had the Veal Parmigiana, which was seasoned nicely, still crisp with a robust tomato sauce and angel hair pasta. Wife had the Chicken Piccata and said it was delicious too. The bread knots are delicious and flavorful.
Service was excellent and the interior is beautifully decorated, cozy but not crowded.
I see no reason that anyone living south of SA should drive all the way into the city when this place exists, I can’t wait to come back in the future!

My mom and I recently visited Pap’s in La Coste, formerly Luigi’s, now under new management. They closed their location in Hondo and reopened in La Coste after renovating and redecorating the interior, which now has a very homey, welcoming aesthetic.
The owner personally came to our table to check on my mom, who was experiencing some side pain, and took the time to have a genuine conversation with us. Her husband is the chef, and their children help with service on the weekends—it truly feels like a family-run restaurant.
We ordered the Shrimp Alfredo and Shrimp Scampi, and calling the food delicious would be an understatement. It was absolutely heavenly. The bread served alongside the meal was also excellent.
They’re currently working on obtaining their liquor license and setting up delivery through DoorDash. The restaurant is only about five miles from the Silos, making it a convenient stop. I’m hoping this post helps spread the word—do yourself a favor and try them out. You won’t be disappointed.

TLDR: The chef sucked today and doesn’t rate $17.99 a plate. I am willing to come back later on to see if they improve/the main chef returns.
To begin , the original Luigi’s was amazing and I can to try their new location. It takes a lot for me to yelp a bad review… I ordered the ribeye ortalano. I was nervous ordering steak from a small town country Italian restaurant. The steak came to the table with nice grill marks on one side and no grill marks on the other side. It was almost a coyote brown color and cooked to well done about 85% through with some red (not pink) on the underside. No exaggeration whatsoever, it was the toughest piece of meat I’ve had in a long time. I suspect it’s freezer burn or they cooked it partially still frozen. I had to send it back and the chef refused to re-cook it because “they said it was medium rare”. Ordered the shrimp scampi in substitute. Had good taste but was drowning in butter/oil. My wife ordered the tilapia geneovese and it was delicious. Flaky fish lightly fried and nice sauce. The server said the main chef was on vacation.
The building is old but quaint. Hometown feel. The servers are disorganized but friendly. The servers also grab the bread for the bread basket with their bare hands (I find this gross as they’re constantly touching customer’s plates and then using the same hands to grab bread). Like bro… are tongs that expensive?
Here is a photo of the leftover sauce after I ate the noodles (I didn’t think to take a picture till after I ate).

The food was excellent. Did have to wait some they had a party going and we’re very busy. Although Joshua our waiter was excellent informing us on our order and taking very very good care of us. Thank you, Joshua, for the excellent service. This is just a reminder that this is not a fast food restaurant. Everything is made to order, and the freshness is . Their fryer went out, so I couldn’t try calamari and perhaps maybe why my Chicken Parmesan wasn’t beaded. None the less the food was still excellent. Just a little note items not on the menu that you should ask for if you like spicy is the Spicy Marinara it is so so good. I’m so happy this didn’t disappoint . I miss them in Castroville but I’m glad they are still close by and still putting out excellent food. If this helps please give it a like.

Luigi’s was amazing, the pizza was nice, the tiramisu was nice. It was amazing, although if you’re a lemonade person, do not get the calamaris, they make the lemonade have a huge weird taste on to them because of the salt and stuff. They kinda mess up the order a little bit on the pizza as we asked for a half side normal pepperoni while the other side has sausage AND pepperoni. But it was okay. It took about 30 mins to get all of our food that we ordered, the service was nice and especially the waiters/waitress’s. There were roses on our table and like more than half of the pedals filled on the table making them a mess around the table (photo is down below). This would have been a 5 but you’ve already read the review. Overall, would recommend recommend again.

Warning, biased review since we enjoyed their original location in Castroville. Still great food and friendly service. Always worth the extra distance to drive. Patience is definitely needed due to them still working out the bugs and getting acclimated to the new location. Bring your own bottle of wine or beverage while you patiently wait. At this point it is not the place to go if you’re in a hurry. We will definitely return to this gem of an Italian restaurant.

I met a friend at Luigi’s in La Coste this weekend. The food was absolutely delicious!! Portion size was enough to take leftovers. They won’t have their liquor license for another few weeks but we were able to take our own bottle. The owner showed us a list of the wines they would be carrying and there was a nice variety of good quality wines. The owners and our waitress were all super friendly. This will definitely be our go to meeting place from now on. 10/10
