Restaurant reviews always come down to personal taste — this one just didn’t quite match ours.
Small dining room with about nine tables, a TV, video lottery room, and moderately comfortable bench seating.
Food:
• Egg Flower Soup: Mild flavor; decent.
• Hot & Sour Soup: Standard flavor, solid base — improved after adding a couple spoons of chili oil.
• Lunch Special ($11 with fried rice): A good value, though not as fresh as what we’re used to around Salem.
• Crab Puffs: Could use more crunch.
• Fried Rice: Plain, no veggies, and on the dry side.
• Spring Rolls: Crispy exterior with fresh filling — a bright spot.
• Cashew Chicken: Veggies weren’t as fresh as expected.
• General Tso’s Chicken: Soy-sauce-forward flavor; crunchy breading, large chunks. Just okay overall.
Drinks & Atmosphere:
Tea is served by the cup (not a pot) — extremely hot with pink or regular sugar packets. Takes about 20 minutes to cool enough to drink, and comes without a “hot beverage” warning. There’s also a faint, odd smell in the dining area that was noticeable during our visit.
Overall:
Portions are larger than expected for a lunch special, and some locals clearly enjoy this spot. For us, it was average Chinese food — okay for the price, but below the freshness and flavor we typically find at our favorite Salem restaurants.

Google says the restaurant is open, the sign on the window says the restaurant is open but in fact the restaurant is NOT open. After driving 20 minutes from my house to find it closed is very disappointing. Thank god there’s a Thai restaurant right next door that IS open. They got my business instead. Definitely need to your change hours on here so this doesn’t happen to other people.

I went there for the first time today. They were open on Christmas. I ordered Pad Thai and I know what the authentic one tastes like, so I always compare that $2 dish with the American 14-18 dollar one depending on where you go. The portion was much bigger than in Thailand (two plates from home worth), so that’s a plus. Noodle taste and ingredients were very similar, though I’ve noticed that a lot of restaurants, even actual Thai restaurants in America, use scrambled eggs. This one did too. But I requested fried ones like in Thailand and they only charged me 2 dollars for 2 eggs. At a Thai place in Beaverton I got charged 3 dollars per egg. Everything was great. My girlfriend said the water tasted bad and subsequently her hot tea, which was served luke-warm.

They got video machines and I won 20 bucks so that paid for my meal.

Overall recommendable place to go eat Chinese and other Asian dishes!

Decided we would try this place after groc shopping at Winco. Almost didn’t go in because employee was smoking right by the entry door (which we thought was really disgusting) and shouldn’t be allowed!!
We did however go in as we wanted to try the food. I did enjoy the chicken & vegetables. It was fresh and tasty! My husband also liked his sweet & sour chicken.
So we were happy with our meal but between the employee smoking by the door and the young man who took our order (was wearing Pajama pants) just kinda gives you mixed feelings! Not sure if I can recommend or not!

Some of worst chinese food I’ve had. Almost completely flavorless, yet still burned my tongue. One vegetarian option on the lunch menu, no veg soups. The spring roll was bland, and the duck sauce to go with is was the worst I’ve ever had. The meal was only bearable once I basically drowned it in chili oil and soy sauce.

This was our favorite Chinese restaurant in town. The flavors were amazing, no matter what we ordered. Unfortunately, now it is under new management and the food is lackluster. Not bad per-se, but definitely below average. Seriously disappointing!

Follow up – We tried it again and this is the “standard” size of rice now (this is NOT a serving of rice. Its barely a spoonful). Absolutely recommend against!

We ordered crab pops and this is what they gave us. Such a waste.

Have tried numerous Chinese and Thai restaurants in Salem, but Lucky Garden is the best. Chicken and vegetable entree is bountiful, not spicy, and full of good veggies. The bbq pork is the best I’ve had. Thick and tender. When we order delivery, it’s always on time and hot. Can’t go wrong here!

I walked in and placed an order to go, I waited 25 minutes and finally walked up to the counter to check on it. The order was simple and had been sitting g there for 15 minutes, the employee just forgot to give it to me. Food was ok

Stopped here on the way home from a trip as we were driving through, we wanted Chinese food and found Lucky Garden on Google maps and it was just off the highway. Food was really good, with great portions. The staff were super nice. We will stop by again as we are driving through Salem on I-5.
