Lucky Dragon has been one of those dependable, old-school Chinese restaurants that you end up coming back to when you want something familiar and comforting. I’ve ordered from here multiple times, both takeout and dine-in, and overall the experience has been consistently good, with a few minor drawbacks that keep it from being a full five stars.
The food quality is generally very solid. Portions are generous, especially for the price, and most dishes arrive hot and well packed for takeout. The classic staples — things like General Tso’s chicken, lo mein, fried rice, and beef with broccoli — are prepared the way you’d expect, without being overly greasy or bland. Some dishes are better than others, but nothing I’ve had has been outright disappointing. When they’re on their game, the flavors are balanced and comforting rather than overly sweet or salty.
One thing I appreciate is that Lucky Dragon feels like it’s aimed at regular customers, not just one-off orders. The menu is extensive, and you can tell they’ve been serving the neighborhood for a long time. Prices are reasonable compared to similar places in the area, and portions usually justify the cost, which matters these days when takeout prices are creeping up everywhere.
Service has been fine to good, depending on timing. Staff have always been polite and efficient in my experience, though not especially chatty. Orders are usually accurate, and wait times are reasonable, especially if you call ahead. During busy periods, things can slow down a bit, but nothing that feels unusual for a local restaurant.
The main reason I’m giving four stars instead of five is consistency. While it’s usually good, there are occasional nights where a dish feels a little rushed or less flavorful than usual. It’s not a dealbreaker, but it does stand out when you’ve had a better version of the same dish from them before.
Overall, Lucky Dragon is a reliable Arlington takeout option that does what it’s supposed to do: decent food, fair pricing, and dependable service. If you’re looking for innovative or upscale Chinese cuisine, this isn’t that — but if you want solid, familiar dishes from a long-standing neighborhood spot, it’s worth ordering from.
Everything tastes fresh and is well cooked.
This is our new spot for American Chinese.
Me and my coworkers went for lunch today, and everything we got was amazing! Specifically the spicy garlic green beans, and the hot and sour soup were perfection. The scallion pancakes were the perfect texture without being too oily or chewy. Plus, The inside is IMPECCABLY clean and they are all so nice!! Highly recommended.
Inside of restaurant is very clean and new. Will definitely order here again.
All the appetizers were fresh and delicious. We loved the pork fried rice and chicken. People there working are really friendly and welcoming as well. The place is small. Your local Chinese take out. They do have 2-3 seats if you want to eat there. It’s worth driving 30 mins when we want Chinese.
