This place feels more like a Chinese remix of Thai food than authentic Thai. I ordered two very simple dishes: pineapple fried rice and drunken noodles. The gentleman at the front (who said he was the owner’s son) lost his train of thought while taking my order. No problem — I repeated it. Then I repeated it again. And just for good measure, I repeated it a third time.
The drunken noodles came out quickly. Five minutes later, instead of pineapple fried rice, we were served… pineapple sticky rice. I’ve seen mango sticky rice. I’ve eaten mango sticky rice. Pineapple sticky rice? That was a first. Unfortunately, not by choice.
When I pointed out the mistake, our server Martin informed me, “That’s why you need to check your receipt.” Interesting take. I was under the impression that repeating my order three times was the checking process.
Rather than simply fixing it, Martin decided to debate me about it. He said they wouldn’t make the pineapple fried rice unless I paid the difference first. Fine — I said I’d take the receipt to the front and pay. Suddenly, he wanted to confiscate the receipt like it was classified government material. Things got unnecessarily complicated for what should have been a simple correction.
At that point, I just asked for a refund on the mystery pineapple dessert I never ordered and canceled the fried rice. Magically, the fried rice that couldn’t be started without payment was now ready to serve. Remarkable turnaround time.
To be fair, a very kind woman stepped in and handled the refund professionally and quickly. She was the highlight of the experience.
Between this visit and a previous one where I watched Martin drop dishes everywhere, I think I’ll be retiring from this location. There are too many good Thai restaurants to gamble on pineapple surprises.
I’m not sure if it was the ambiance, the incredibly friendly service, or a touch of actual magic, but the food at Luckie Thai isn’t just a meal—it’s a spiritual journey. Seriously, clear your calendars, drive to SE Tucson, and prepare for enlightenment.
I ordered the Tom Kha with tofu, and honestly, calling it soup feels like an insult to its sublime perfection. It was a velvety, coconut-milk dream, perfectly balanced with the zing of galangal and lime. Each spoonful was a moment of pure, soothing glory—the perfect launching pad for our flavor ascent.
My wife had the Pad Khee Mao (Drunken Noodles), also with tofu, and I swear she stopped talking mid-chew to meditate on the experience. While many places use thick noodles, Luckie Thai uses a slightly thinner noodle, which acted as the perfect delivery system for their special Luckie Sauce. This dish was a thrilling roller coaster of fresh basil and peppers, elevated to unheard-of levels by that secret sauce.
And as for the spice? Forget cooling down. The glorious heat level brought on a good, honest sweat, proving that ascension sometimes requires a little purification by fire.
The Tofu: As tofu connoisseurs, we often brace ourselves for rubbery mediocrity. Not here. It was golden, firm, and flawlessly integrated into both dishes. This is tofu that deserves a medal.
In short, Luckie Thai doesn’t just make food; they make edible happiness that delivers on flavor and heat. Go. Your ordinary week needs this extraordinary, sweat-inducing flavor journey.
TL;DR:
Tom Kha: 10/10 – Liquid nirvana.
Pad Khee Mao: 10/10 – Special sauce, great sweat, and total perfection.
Starting with the service being so family and friendly oriented. You can tell they care about their service by how they treat their customers and how frequent their customers are.
The atmosphere gives a comforting home-like feel where you can sit down, decompress, and enjoy what has been to me the best pho I’ve had in Tucson.
I am so excited to go again and try more food items and based off their reviews I know I won’t be disappointed regardless of what I order!
Again that beef pho was unbelievable. Such a rich broth. Peanut sauce that’s served with the spring rolls again wow!
And for what you’re getting the price is absolutely worth it.
i definitely would recommend Luckie’s Thai Asain Cusine.
and try them out. We’ll definitely be back. Extremely Vegan Friendly
I recently tried the E2 Mixed Veggie dish at Luckie’s Thai, opting for the beef addition. The dish itself was tasty, with tender beef slices and a good variety of crisp vegetables, including broccoli, carrots, and what appeared to be bell peppers. The sauce was flavorful, though perhaps a touch on the salty side.
However, the portion of rice was disappointingly small. For $20, I expected a more generous serving, especially considering rice is a relatively inexpensive component of the meal. While the quality was there, the quantity left me feeling a bit shortchanged.
Overall: A decent dish with good flavor, but the skimpy rice portion makes it feel overpriced at $20. If you’re a big rice eater, you might want to consider ordering an extra side or opting for a dish with a more substantial serving.
Is it overpriced?
Yes, based on your feedback about the small rice portion, $20 does seem a bit high. In many Thai restaurants, you can find similar dishes with more generous portions of rice for a lower price point. The quality of the ingredients might justify a slightly higher price, but the lack of rice definitely impacts the value.
The service was fine nothing special no special attention or anything. Waitress smiled but other than that it was nonchalant attitude. Not good not bad just there.
The atmosphere was casual to a fault.
Overall come for the food its good.
I have never had Phad Thai in my life but if this is how it taste. I’m so coming back again. So courteous and kind.
I ordered that and the dumplings pan fried. OH MY HEAVEN. The dumplings are amazing but the sauce is a must have. I couldn’t eat all of it. I ate by myself with a book n only got dumplings n my phad Thai sorry if I spelled it wrong but it was amazing they have all kinds of dishes. I ordered something I never had to try an experience and so worth it. Please visit them or order for pick up.
