Well it’s ALMOST Mexican. I had high hopes. I ordered what’s usually my favorite- Quesabirria Tacos with a side of beans and rice. Instead I got weird pot roast tacos with a beef broth as the “consommé.” Seemed like the shells were fried in a panini press! No color to shells which are supposed to be dipped in the consommé THEN fried. The consommé had no chile oil in it to give the shells color. Beans and rice were so bland and flavorless. I told my friend who said “oh you should have just got the fajitas.” You can’t mess those up and they sell those at Applebee’s! Forgive me for wanting good Mexican food at a Mexican restaurant. I was very disappointed.

I understand ordering a steak at a Mexican restaurant is a gamble. That being stated, there is a bit of a social contract between restaurants and patrons when it comes to pricing and menu description. Having a T-bone steak on the menu for $28 leads a person towards the assumption that the gamble has been taken into consideration and priced according to the implied quality. A better steak would be had at Waffle House. The only correct part of the menu description was the ‘special’ part, because they must be ‘special’ if they think that trash is worth $28. It should be criminal to even ask how a customer would like this ‘steak’ cooked, the very question implying that the ‘steak’ is more than 1/4” thick.

Very vibrant inside. Staff very nice. I had the shrimp tacos with corn tortilla. The corn shells seemed like they came from a big box
Store and not authentic. I could be wrong but not a fan of the corn tortillas. shrimp, beans and rice was quite tasty. The salsa and chips was fresh and very good. Overall is was good but just disappointed in the corn tortillas.

We stopped by here for lunch last Friday because you should really give every restaurant in the area at least a try. The entrance side of the building is quite welcoming, at least the appearance of a Mexican cantina. One step into the door is quite the different story. I would describe the place as an attempt by a CEO toward a Mexican themed corporate cafeteria (I’ve been in such places, they’re cozier), with a splash of sports bar. Super clean, new paint with big colorful murals, a few big tv’s and zero charm. If you ever wanted to experience maximum visual contrast on every surface to where nothing blends together (it’s an open floor plan), this is the place for you.
Service was quick and friendly, but it took a while to decide what to order due to the light glare on the menu, I had to block sections with my arm to read it.
The chips were unseasoned and likely stale. Those are normally demolished before ordering anything, they were left on the table. We ordered taco’s because that’s generally safe. Oscars Mexican Taco’s and steak tacos. Steak tacos were good, Osca’s was a different story. Both had fresh and tasty toppings with corn tortillas; however, Oscar’s were served flat but not fried. I got halfway through one before realizing there’s no steak and the chorizo is so mild we had to try some separately to confirm it’s chorizo. The “hot sauce” is definitely mild, which seems to be a theme in Jackson.
I’m told the margaritas were excellent.

I ordered the chicken enchiladas with double rice.

The rice was crunchy as if it wasn’t cooked all of the way or it was scraped off of the bottom of the dish. Also lacked flavor, almost flavorless if we’re being honest. I also don’t understand why they had peas and carrot cubes in the rices, it was off putting and the veggies looked massively dehydrated.
The chicken was VERY dry and stringy. The flavor of the sauce on the enchiladas was very good and perhaps if I had gotten the cheese enchiladas I’d have enjoyed them more.
My husband said the beans tasted canned and unseasoned.
The tacos had dry steak and somehow the onion lacked flavor. The cilantro was very wilted.
The chicken tenders were good. But it’s hard to make those poorly so it’s not a real redemption.
The queso portion for $6 is a very small cup of queso but it was very good. The chips and salsa both were delicious.
The corn tortillas were well made and held structure quite well and had a depth of flavor that I really appreciated.
Overall our family spent over $100 on food that was very dissatisfying and could easily be done much better at home.

This area doesn’t have a lot of places to dine out so it’s not surprising that the quality and cost don’t match. The supply is so low this restaurant can get away with serving low quality meals at high quality prices.

The portions were all surprisingly small for a Mexican restaurant.

They were able to accommodate a group of 25 SORTA ? The server was clearly overwhelmed despite the restaurant being otherwise pretty slow at the time which says to me they’re not often very busy. He was courteous but still didn’t seem to be keeping up with the table very well. Such a large party is often difficult, so I still think the service was done well. We also never blame the server for low quality food so we made sure to tip well of course.

The restaurant was clean and cute, but had annoying parking where the parking lot was poorly lit, poorly maintained and over crowded likely from the neighboring restaurant.

It was a lovely visit with family despite the lack of taste and quality with the food.

First time here, I will say needs work on customer service. Ladies are very nice but nice only goes so far. Our chips were stale and come to find out they actually make their chips which leads to me with an assumption of holding onto their old chips. Upper management needs to do a test run like maybe every hour on batches of chips. Remember this is customers first journey of their impressions of Lucero!s.

Hope it gets better. Hope to use customer inputs in a positive and constructive way

We will visit again maybe next year. This place has an outdoor seating which we will try next visit.

Not your traditional Mexican restaurant but much more. I had the chicken chimichanga which was very good. It came with rice, beans, Pico and guac and sour cream. Huge portions!! I ended up bringing half of it home for dinner tomorrow.

Had a meal tonight at the newly opened Lucernos in Vandercook Lake near Klavons. Lots of menu issues, I had two different meals delivered to me in the hopes that it was what I ordered…. The service, aside from the meal things, was good. We had one filthy fork and knife delivered. She had the burrito bowl with steak, the steak was nice. I had a tostada and a chili relleno with beans and rice. The chili relleno seemed to be stuffed with white American cheese… not great The steak tostada was quite good. The day was gorgeous, we were able to take advantage on the patio.

First visit to the 2nd Lucero’s Mexican bar and grill.
Original location all 5’s here it’s all high 4’s. I fully expect after being open a few weeks it will also be all 5’s
Nice outside area. Inside a very good start to the atmosphere just needs a few more chacky stuff.
Food was good but both our dishes had slightly over cooked meats
