What a great find! This spot is a bit tricky to locate—you might walk right past it thinking it’s a hotel or apartment—but once you step inside, it’s a truly nice place with excellent food.

The menu is full of winners. The pasta is all made fresh in-house, and we absolutely loved the sausage and rigatoni; it had great flavor! The beef carpaccio was very delicious, and we almost ordered a second plate! To top it off, the cocktail with the cucumber was made perfectly and was wonderfully refreshing.

We did order the burger but the food took so long we got full on the prior small bites so we were able to cancel it as it did not make it to get cooked.

Also the celery salad is a must try. It was delicious. Did not know what to expect but definitely was good.

We ordered the oysters, and while they were super fresh, they were a bit saltier than the sweeter oysters I prefer, but they were still good overall. We were thoroughly impressed and will be back again for sure!

We absolutely LOVE this place. We have always eaten at the bar in the tavern area and have no interest in sitting elsewhere. We discovered Lowland a while ago and it is now our most favorite food spot in Charleston. The drinks are outstanding, the service is excellent and the food is divine. The food is fresh, the flavors are unique and the recipes highlight authentic lowland food. This latest visit we tried the celery salad, the burger a the biscuit with a red pepper jelly and potted cheese. The celery salad was simple yet AMAZING. Simple blanched celery with chopped mint and some incredible white cheddar cheese from Wisconsin. I eat burgers almost everywhere I go but this one is truly THE BEST. The meat was perfectly seasoned, perfectly cooked and the perfect size!!! Wish I remembered our bartenders name but he was GREAT on a Sunday night. Cannot wait to go back next month and bring our son who will visit from London!!

My husband and I went to Lowland to celebrate my birthday and it was such a lovely atmosphere for a special dinner. The space felt fun but sophisticated with low lighting and fresh flowers. Dishes like the celery salad were unlike anything I’ve tried before. Other favorites included the pickled vegetables, the Lowland biscuit with farmer cheese and pepper jelly, the Short Rib with chimichurri, and the roasted carrots. We will definitely be back to see what’s on the menu next season.

I have been dining out in Charleston for over 30 years. So I’ve experienced many fine restaurants. Lowland is a must dining experience!! A hidden gem set in a charming old timey 2 story Charleston home. We dined in the tavern which has exposed brick, low lighting and a comfortable ambiance. There was a good crowd and they were very busy, but it was never noisy and it was easy to converse at our table.

They have an extensive curated wine collection and custom cocktails, but we had Pellegrino and the creative “Psychedelic Sally” mocktail. Fantastic flavors!

The food was outstanding top to bottom. The celery salad is a standout. The crunch of the celery and walnuts contrasts perfecly with the figs and crumbled cheese. The beef tartare was amazing as well, with chips to scoop with. My daughter loved the yellowfin tuna crudo appetizer. The pork schnitzel was a large portion lightly batter fried to perfection accompanied by field peas and escarole. The grouper was firm, “steaky” and the best I’ve ever had! Served with creamed corn and fingerling potatoes. Chef Dion does an exceptional job with matching flavors and textures-you can see and taste the preparation that goes into every dish ‍ The Granny Smith apple hand pies with whipped cream were to die for! My daughter had a super rich flavorful butterscotch pudding-amazing!! Coffee was outstanding and served in a large stoneware cup.

Our server Mackenzie was delightful. She appeared at just the right times. We never felt rushed. And several other servers appeared with our dishes right on cue. Everyone was friendly and you I could feel a good vibe permeating the restaurant. The managers Davis and Michael were very friendly and came over several times to check on us.

It was a great dining experience all around. Ambience, food and service all top notch! Highly recommend and will be returning!

Service was attentive, drinks were strong and delicious, and the food was great! You MUST order the biscuits to start.

Atmosphere is 4 stars only because the whole restaurant unfortunately stunk like body odor (hit with it as soon as we stepped through the doors) during our particular visit; and I’m assuming that’s not something that regularly happens.

What a cool place. I love the southern hospitality feel of the place. I ate the Rigatoni Pork Ragu, Apple Pie handheld, and had a glass of Cab. The rigatoni was amazing! The apple pie handheld a the perfect finisher and the cab went well with both. My server was awesome. She was very friendly and attentive. Very much a spot you should add to the list.

The atmosphere here is fantastic—warm, inviting, and perfect for a night out. The service was also excellent; everyone was friendly and attentive without being overbearing.

The highlight of the evening for me was actually the mocktail. I ordered the Phycodelic Sally, and it was hands-down the best mocktail I’ve ever had—such a refreshing and unique flavor.

As for the food, it was a bit of a mixed bag. The beef tartare was tasty, but the portion was so tiny it left us wanting more. The rigatoni pasta, however, was absolutely incredible—rich, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The pork schnitzel was good, but nothing particularly memorable. The burger had great, juicy meat, but the bun was a little dry and the fries were unfortunately overdone.

Overall, the experience was still very enjoyable thanks to the atmosphere, service, and that unforgettable mocktail. I’d recommend it, especially if you’re looking for great drinks and a lively vibe.

Fantastic experience from start to finish. Excellent cocktails and inventive cuisine. The celery salad doesn’t seem like it should work, but was amazing. We had grouper, the seafood pasta, oysters and all were top notch.

I don’t what I could say that would adequately describe how fantastic this place is across the board. Truly an exceptional experience from the staff, management, bar tenders, and hostesses. The food was amazing, creative and perfectly executed. The celery salad was amazing and a stand out for sure. Cocktails were perfect and well made. We sat at the bar and had a great time chatting with the bartenders making the evening all the more fun. Atmosphere is also stunning and very well done. Thanks so much for a wonderful experience! Favorite spot in town, hands down.

Fantastic restaurant in the heart of downtown Charleston. The surprise dish of the night was the celery salad! The grouper and pork schnitzel entrees were 5-star. A shout-out to our server Laura and the bartender Sam.
