We got there before the serving line opened up. Already patrons were in and waiting. We knew this was going to be soul food at its finest. While waiting we got to meet Gary, one of the co-owners of Lou’s. What a fantastic guy. Lots of fun chatting with him.
Finally, the line was open. I move pretty fast, but several people got up to the serving line before I did.
I ordered the fried chicken and selected cream corn, blackeyed peas, yams and corn bread. My wife ordered ribs, cream corn, butterbeans and hoe cake. We were in heaven. Our conversation stopped while we took in some delicous food. This is elbows on the table kind of eating. You know what I mean? You pick up that delicious fried chicken and you know you are not going to put it down until you have eaten every last morsel off the bone.
Crystal H. (there are two Crystals working here) waited on us and made sure that we had everything we needed. Our tea glasses were kept full – a warm and kind hearted person who made us feel very much at home.
You have a ton of dessert options, but we were so full afterwards that we didn’t have room for dessert. But, we did get to try some cookie samples, and any choice would have been excellent.
The menu is posted outside on a chalkboard and inside at the front of the serving line.
This was a delightful dining experience, and one that we will remember for a very long time. Thanks to everyone working there. We had a blast meeting the team and enjoying the food.
Our recent visit was our first to this establishment, and unfortunately, it fell short of expectations.
We ordered patty melts, french fries, and tap water.
Key Observations:
Patty Melt Quality: The patty melts were notably unbalanced. The proportion of bread was excessive, and the meat patty itself was remarkably thin. This composition significantly detracted from the overall quality of the dish.
Tap Water Charge: We were unexpectedly charged for tap water, a detail that should ideally be communicated upfront if it is standard policy.
Value: Based on the quality of the patty melt, we would not choose to purchase this item again.
We understand that initial visits can sometimes coincide with temporary issues, and we considered that perhaps the kitchen may have been experiencing an unusual operational challenge, which might account for the unsatisfactory quality of the meal.
We hope that future dining experiences for other patrons reflect a higher standard of preparation and ingredient balance.
Burger meat was off. Kids grilled cheese was a piece of bread with cheese folded in half for $7. Didn’t have chips for my sandwich so they offered fries but still up charged me. Found out they didn’t have pickles until after the food came out and I asked for them on my burger. Sandwich bread and buns definitely weren’t sourdough as they were described.
Server was nice and attentive though.
