Went to Louie’s on a Friday during Lent so fish was the meal of the day. We got to Louie’s and waited quite a while to get seated, we had reservations. Menus were at the table. We waited quite a while again before the waitress came,; long enough that we were ready to order our drinks and dinner; only 4 of 5 drinks were delivered. 1/2 of the drinks were not made as ordered. All of us had salads. 5 of 6 salads were delivered, we had to hail the waitress to inquire about the missing salad. Dinner came and it was just mediocre. None of us had pizza. The waitress was not attentive. From my experience I would say this is not a destination restaurant.

Great local place for comfort foods from their specialty pizza to chicken , beef, pork dishes. I would highly recommend their pizza it’s very delicious. I have been ordering here for years. They changed their bread stick back in the day they used to be with parmesan cheese and butter on them now they only come plain either way it’s a great place for good comfort food.

Loved it. A classic old school red sauce Italian place with so much more on the menu. Friendly, attentive service. Solid cocktails and bar selection. Delicious breadsticks. Red checkered plastic tablecloths. Lots of variety. Cheese curds were inhaled before a photo could even be snapped. We will be back!

Louie’s is an awesome restaurant. For me it never disappoints. The service is always good and the food is delicious. On this visit I had mostaccioli with meatballs. We also ordered the chicken fingers and a large cheese and ground beef pizza. Of course we ordered the breadsticks too because they are the best. We took plenty of food home because we ordered a lot. It’s often hard to choose on which item to select.

Dined in on Valentines for dinner with the husband and some friends while we were visiting the area and we are still raving about our experience. The environment/vibes are warm and inviting, decor is old school Italian – you can tell its been a staple for many years. Every staff member was so sweet and eager to go above and beyond; you can tell like enjoy working there and they work well as a team. Our waitress was a true gem, we had a great time with her!
The food – wow! Its been over 24 hours and we’re still full. For starters, order the bag if breadsticks, just do it, zero regrets. French onion soup was delicious. We also had chicken parm, mushroom Alfredo, lasagna and Alfredo pizza; everything was delicious!!

An excellent neighborhood restaurant with daily dinner specials. You won’t find bar food here, but more upscale dining like spaghetti and mostaccioli, broasted chicken and fish. The history of Louie’s is continued to this day through the attentive staff and the customers. If you loved Louie’s 20 years ago, you will love it again.

Went this past Sunday. Had been a few times before but had never tried the pizza.
Definitely worth a visit if you have not been here before and you are relatively close by.
The sausage was quite good. The jalapenos were fresh and mercifully mild. In fact they could have been a little hotter (but they can’t control that) The edge pieces were ~outstanding~.
I do think it could be cooked a little hotter or longer period it is not a firm crust all the way through…

THAT SAID I will almost certainly be visiting again next month.

note: I am not sure how long that building has operated as Louie’s but man the vibe is truly old school.

PS the broasted chicken is fantastic

I usually don’t give five stars for a restaurant. This was very nice the atmosphere was really good and the food was really good I had chicken four piece, fresh vegetables not Frozen and the chicken was excellent. It is kind of surprising that you look at the outside of this place and you just would not expect how nice it is on the inside. I forgot to take a picture of the food before and but hey I ate it all it was delicious.

This was my first time ordering since the new owners took over, and I’m happy to say the food is still great — flavorful, fresh, and exactly what I was hoping for.

That said, I was a bit disappointed with the service during pickup. I ordered through DoorDash and went in to pick up my own order. The person at the front wasn’t very friendly and seemed to assume I was just a delivery driver rather than the actual customer. Even if I had been a delivery driver, a little courtesy would still go a long way.

There was no greeting or thank-you, and she continued answering phone calls while I was paying for my wine (the food was already paid for online). It felt rushed and impersonal.

I truly enjoy this restaurant and hope this was just an off moment, because the food itself is still excellent. With a bit more attention to customer service, this place would be just as great as before.

It’s not too often my family & I step into a restaurant and are treated like regulars. The last week of this past October marked the first time dining in since the pandemic started.

But I think that was mainly due to the fact that our first son who was 4 years old the last time we dined in used to get whiny because the dimness of the venue spooked him.

I’m no stranger to this place and in fact I first started dining here around 30 years ago. My father who worked at Victory Hospital from 1991 -2007 got me hooked on this place.

I asked my wife if we could finally make a return to this gem being I’ve been longing for some Poor Man’s Lobster and homemade breadsticks. Besides the homey feeling the Patterson brothers provide the moment you walk in, those are the 2 things I look forward to at Louie’s the most.

I’ve had their fried chicken on special on Sunday before which is really good, love their meatball sandwich, their pizza is awesome but the Poor Man’s on special every Friday accompanied by their heavenly breadsticks are the sole purpose of my visit.

In fact, easily 4 out of every 5 visits here have been on Friday nights for that wonderful codfish. Told my wife that we’re gonna start dining in here a bit more often again.

Whenever I’ve walked in here, it’s almost like something you’ve seen in The Godfather or Goodfellas, that old time gangster hangout vibe but I absolutely love it here.

I believe this building is one of the oldest in Waukegan and the Patterson family have been in business with this bustling restaurant going on 45 years this year. I really miss George, God rest his soul.

A real find in the city of Waukegan and truly one of my very favorite restaurants of all time. Great food at still reasonable prices, always friendly service in an old classic setting with a nice bar that’s always kept very clean.

I wish the Pattersons continued success & prosperity and hope their business stays booming for decades to come.
