Spoiler: it did!
The space is SO cute. It’s a renovated historic home with a big outdoor picnic seating area, plus indoor booths, tables, and a bar area inside the house. It’s one of those spots that works for date night, happy hour, or families (tons of room outside for kids to run around).
We went for happy hour (they have it DAILY, just check the times as weekend is different then weekday) and we also wanted to test out the inKind app. Everything worked seamlessly!
We asked to sit in the bar area and our bartender was awesome! She was friendly and attentive, even though she was the only one making drinks. She let me sample both frozen options (which were fabulous), and I ended up doing a half-and-half (per her suggestion) of the Creamsicle + Painkiller. Strong, smooth, easy to drink… dangerous in the best way! Honestly one of the best frozen’s I’ve had and I’m not typically a frozen drink girl.
It was a little chilly in the bar area (and not just because of the frozen drinks ), but she even offered to turn up the heat. When our focaccia came out later than expected, she automatically comped it, which we appreciated.
Food highlights:
• Meatballs + Focaccia – Just as good as we remembered. Flavorful, comforting, and perfect for sharing. The bread is deliciously crispy, but you definitely need more then what it is served with to enjoy all the sauce.
• Italian Sandwich – The ROCKSTAR. Even though the bread was softer than we’d usually prefer for this style, it was loaded and packed with flavor. 1000% would eat this again!
• Joe’s Pie – Tasty, felt more Neapolitan style and had a good chew and flavor. Especially loved the mushrooms and olives on it!
• Warm seeded Focaccia – SO FLUFFY!
Overall, the atmosphere, service, and variety on the menu make this a spot we’ll absolutely keep coming back to. Loud Mouth lives up to the hype!
Since then, we’ve been a bunch (somewhere between 6 – 10 times). Some of the dishes we’ve tried were the meatball app, the arancini, the meatball sub, and the kale caesar. All were good and things we ordered again in future visits.
Unfortunately, the food has been so different each time we go – the menu changes, the dishes themselves are made differently, and the portions seem to be getting smaller and smaller.
This past time the Italian sandwich was served on such small, thin bread, it seemed like about half the portion when comparing to the first time we went. I’m not sure if they ran out of the regular bread they normally use or if a thin French type loaf is what they’ve shifted too entirely, but either way it was disappointing.
They also no longer do the homemade chips (haven’t for a while – a few times ago they gave us bagged chips instead of homemade and now they don’t serve anything with the sandwich).
The prices have shifted too with some things a few dollars more and some a few dollars less than when we first went – because of that, no major increase with pricing (that we could see anyway) but for the current portion sizes, pricing is still a bit elevated.
Another big shift from this last visit was the arancini – we’ve ordered it several times and again, it was very good. It had a great sauce and plenty of it. This last time the dish hardly has any sauce though. While it did have a good crispy pancetta sprinkled on top, it was just inconsistent and lacking the flavor that the sauce brought to it previously.
Everything else – the vibe, staff, etc. – is still solid, but the inconsistency with the food, menu, and prices has made it hard to keep loving this place. It seems like they keep trying to switch something up – not sure if they are trying to solidify their dishes or if inflation / their distributors are impacting the dish switch ups, but too much change over a short period of time, especially when that change negatively impacts the dish, just isn’t a good thing.
Lastly, I’ll admit we have only gotten the pizza once here and it was okay but definitely not my favorite. Maybe it’s gotten better over time because it seems to be a favorite in other reviews. Perhaps this is just more of a place to go for pizza now vs. the other items on their menu…?
Only pain point is it is pretty pricey for the amount of food you get, so it might be a special occasion spot for me. They also have a large group gratuity charge for parties 5+
Limited soda range – no Dr Pepper :/
The restaurant is lovely – in a historic building, with an inviting interior. They also have a great setup outside with many picnic tables and wooden benches.
The pizza is thin crust, with crunchy edge – and OH SO TASTY. Some of the pizzas we have tried in other places had no flavor to the crust. This pizza had a great crust – deep oaky flavor from a wood fired oven.
Our waiter Connor was very helpful, friendly and efficient. We asked for suggestions and he pointed us to a couple of pizzas (Joe’s pie, Señor Pastor, Hot Boy Summer ) but each had things on them that I couldn’t have (dietary restrictions). So we ordered the Margherita (more like a normal cheese pizza) and the Michelangelo (mozzarella, goat cheese, green onion, chives, chili powder, garlic oil, grilled lemon).
We ordered the warm seeded focaccia to start with whipped honey garlic butter and olive oil. Bread was piping hot, tender crumb, and tasty.
Pizza – both were amazing! The margherita – crust was crunchy at the edges, but a little soggy toward the middle. Had to use knife and fork for the first bite! They also put grated parm on top – I could do without it. Pizza was very good tho – sauce had great flavor with just the right amount of cheese for that stringy pull when you bite a piece off!
The Michelangelo – I had the chili powder put on the side. What makes this a great pizza? That grilled lemon – you squeeze some on the pizza and it perfectly balances out the flavors with that little bit of acid bite. This pie was crunchier than the other – and we both loved it!
We did try dessert. Hubs had the tiramisu – which was housemade. It had great flavor – and a wonderfully yellow marscapone made in house also – but it needed to set more. It’s served like a soufflé – in a ramekin – vs cut into a square. The lady fingers could have soaked up more of the liquor. He thought that there wasn’t a lot of coffee flavor, but he is very picky about his tiramisu. He thought this was good, but was not a traditional one.
We also tried the ricotta doughnuts which come with home made blueberry/lemon jam and pistachio sauce (which was a lot like peanut butter!) These were good, but a bit too rich/heavy after pizza!
Overall – definitely will be back! Great Service, food and atmosphere!
What I discovered, was a gorgeous interior which I am now branding as Sophisticated Casual. The bar area showcased beautiful walnut-colored wood, dark green marble with shiny brass lamps. The single-family house was coverted into a restaurant, with separate rooms for guests to enjoy complete with fireplaces, period lighting, artwork and furniture. Kudos to the decoration team who laid out Loudmouth.
Despite an old school sophistication vibe, the restaurant is definitely a place that is very casual, eating inside or on their patio. Bartender Olivia helped me out all night, and let me know thay a very successful music scene launched last year on the patio has returned again this year.
“It will fill up completely, inside and out,” she said. “The music will run through November on Tuesday nights.”
Olivia said the food at Loudmouth is a sort of Elevated Classic, taking common dishes thay people like and twisting them to give them aome pizazz.
The menu is a nice size, and features pizzas in addition to some unique appetizers, wings, salads and two wonderful sandwiches.
Which brings we back to the Italian. Yes, it is one of the best I have tasted in Austin. I know there are loyal supporters thay say is a legitimate challenger to Home Slice’s Italian, which is regarded by many as “King of the Hill.”
Loudmouth’s cooks bake all their breads daily. This includes the foccacia for appetizers, pizza dough and of course rolls for the Italian and Club. I really liked the seed blend on top – this everything bagel (you can zoom in on the picture to see what I mean).
They generously load the rolls up with the requisite spicy capicola, salami and prosciutto bottom, adding on provolone, giardiniera, lettuce, tomatoe and onion. The spread is homemade dijonaise.
All the ingredients blended of well together, and at a foot long it will fill up even the big boys.
When I looked at the menu the Hamachi (Yellowfish) Crudo immediately jumped off the page to me. I love all things Hamichi. Again? I will refer you to the pictures, beautiful and tasty.
The orange dots are Calabrian Chili. The fish is further garnished with crispy shallots, lemon, capers and herbs. You really need to try this, even if you’re just going in for pizza.
The pizzas definitely fit into Olivia’s Elevated Classics. There is a Margherita, which is pretty normal. However the other five pies are unique including Señor Pastor and Joe’s Pie
Señor’s comes with cheddar, marinated pork shoulder, salsa roja, jalapeño crema, red onion and cilantro. Oh, yeah pineapple too. I know, I know, what kind of psycho puts pineapple on pizza?!?!? But it works!
Joe’s has a tomato sauce base and is topped with mozzarella, fennel sausage, oyster mushrooms, olives, calabrian chili and pecorino.
Sandy Nortman Putnam Sounds like you need to check those pies out for Good Eats Austin.
If you have a special friend, this would be a fun place to go and enjoy each other’s company while dining on great food.
Olivia suggests you try the Fresh on Fire or Amaro’s Problem cocktail. After that you’re on your own. #MattGoodEats
Shortly after, a young man named Harris came over to introduce himself and make sure we were comfortable. From that very first interaction, it was clear he was something special. Harris is the true definition of exceptional customer service. He made thoughtful recommendations, anticipated our needs before we even had to ask, and carried himself with a constant, sincere smile.
What impressed me most was watching how he interacted not just with us, but with every guest around him. He took his time. He listened. He was present. In a world where service can often feel rushed or transactional, Harris was authentic and intentional. You could see that he genuinely cares about people, not just the job.
He absolutely made our experience unforgettable.
Later in the evening, I made it a point to tell Kevin how Harris went above and beyond. Kevin smiled and said he already knew — and that Harris was in line for a managerial position because of the value he brings to the team. That speaks volumes about the leadership and culture there. Great leaders recognize greatness in others.
We own a marketing company, and I constantly tell our clients that the best marketing you can ever have is your team. Ads fade. Promotions end. But people remember how they were treated. Harris is the perfect example of that philosophy in action.
We can’t wait to come back. Truly a 10-star experience all around. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
PS the Parmesan wings and the Warm Seeded Focaccia are life changing 😉
