Lou Tíap: Cozy French Bistro Near Père Lachaise in Paris
Reviews
A funny story that shows how truly authentic this place is: decades ago in France when you ordered a Coke with your meal in a decent restaurant, the waiter would turn up his nose and simply refuse. Pas possible! With the influx of tourists flowing into the country, this is something I haven’t seen for a long time even in fancy restaurants.
What a surprise when our son who is half-French, half American and has lived most of his life in North American asked for a Coke with his cassoulet and was told there was no Coke in the place! For a reason: not only is Coke filled with sugar, but it’s the wrong kind of sugar and certainly doesn’t go with this kind of a meal.
My husband and I got a good laugh because I have written several books about the French and their ways and one side of his French father’s family comes from southwestern France so we know all this. Our son “knows” it as well but in spite of his French genes, does not identify with it in any way! Even without the Coke, though, he very much enjoyed the cassoulet (which he drank with water).
So many French restaurants these days cater to tourists, giving them improbable combinations of food and drink. Few remain honest and true to regional culinary traditions. I applaud these restaurateurs for doing so.
The table was set in a simple, charming way, and the dishes were incredibly fresh, straight from the fire. We enjoyed cassoulet, ray and duck – all of which were exceptional. The restaurant is small, cozy, and blissfully free from loud music or unnecessary noise, making it the perfect place to enjoy a quiet, delicious meal. A wonderful experience overall!
The woman (I guess she was the owner) who attended our table was a perfect match to the overall atmosphere of the restaurant: funny, entertaining and welcoming.
