I love Lou’s and still order frequently but I have had some major consistency issues with this location.

The main issues being as follows:

First, I no longer consider delivery a valid option. Ordering pizza delivered from here is asking for a $50 disappointment and soggy mess. Your sauce and toppings will also be halfway slid off the pizza and the box will be soaked MOST of the time. Most drivers either turn way too quickly or do not understand how to keep it properly flat because the pizza is ALWAYS perfect when I bring it home myself.

Second, I often get pizzas that don’t seem to be cooked properly and have a weird taste that is far from preferable. I don’t know the process exactly, but sometimes something just tastes off about the crust or the cheese, or something. I have a huge sample size of pizzas from this place, so I know damn well when something isn’t right. My hunch is that things are undercooked so I have started to order mine well-done as a preventative measure and have not been disappointed Other than sometimes it ends up a liiiiittle bit too done.

Lastly, and this is more of a customer suggestion than a complaint, but be careful how many toppings you pile on because these pizzas can get very wet and it can ruin them if you add too much. Less is more, and I recommend sticking to one topping or specialty pizzas as they are on the menu.

All things considered, great food overall, friendly staff, and I look forward to seeing steady improvement as I continue ordering going forward.

Probably the best pizza I’ve ever had! I’ve had pizza from alot of different places and have lived in the Chicago land area for the first 40 years of my life traveling the country quite a bit but this is IT!!! I got the Deep Dish Chicago Classic (which comes with sausage and buttercrust) but then added the spinach mix (garlic, onion, basil, spinach) and mushrooms and it was so absolutely amazingly delicious

Finally! A place with gluten free Chicago style pizza! Mine was great. Quick and friendly service.

They have great pizza but if they aren’t open we can’t buy them. This sad little location only does take out, no indoor seating, that is a trip. But that forced us to search for another deep dish pizza, and we found one that opens at 11 am. And boy was it good. Sorry Lou’s. Open a full service Lou Malnati’s in Belvidere or East Rockford.

I ordered a medium salad on 1/20. It was disgusting. No mushrooms, black olives or cooked egg!! I will never go there again. They used to have a delicious salad. I could have thrown that salad together myself with fresh lettuce, not brown!! Sorry I will not be back.

I was looking forward to trying this considering the history of influence with Chicago style deep dish. I don’t know how good the original restaurant is in Chicago, but this Rockford variation is actually one of the worst pizzas I’ve ever had, especially for how expensive it is. I highly recommend you avoid this if you actually like deep dish pizza and Chicago style thin crust. Both styles of pizza here are worse than the average fast food pizza chains, and that should say enough on its own. The deep dish is not even “deep”. It’s the thinnest deep dish pizza I have ever seen. The thin crust has the same style crust as the deep dish and the closest word to describe the texture of the crust is “stale”. If you like this restaurant, then I highly encourage you to try other options. In conclusion, this is an embarrassment to the pizza businesses in Rockford.

Lou’s is the best deep dish ever created! Hands down. Remember, always get your pizza UNcut, it keeps the cheese intact until you get home.

Passing Chicago on our road trip, we wanted to review Lou Malnati’s pizza. This is the best chain of deep dish west of Michigan. Last time we ate Malnati’s, I didn’t write a review. So we eventually found one in Rockford, Illinois.

This location is carry-out only. We placed an order for two small pizzas. One was cheese because we wanted to compare it to Buddy’s and Cloverleaf’s, and the other was their signature sausage (the one they’re famous for). They told us to come back in 30 minutes. While waiting, I picked up a small tub of Malnati’s very own shaved ice in the lemon flavour. Both my mom and I thought it was too salty. My dad liked it but agreed. The nutrition label said the tub had 10 mg.

Onto the pizza. I’ll be blunt. Detroit beats Chicago. The cheese pizza from Malnati’s was a let down. But the sausage does compete with Buddy’s and Cloverleaf. I loved that the sausage wasn’t spicy and that it added a lot of flavour. From me, the cheese pizza gets a 7.8, but the sausage, a 9.0/10.

The bill was $41.02 USD.

This result surprised me. Keep in mind that Chicago is light years ahead of Ontario. I would take Malnati’s cheese over any pizza from southern Ontario.

One of my favorite pizza’s. Shame I must keep boycotting them over deceptive marketing ploys, but I can’t reward dishonesty. Examples: “Free pizza for my birthday” (fine print – “buy 6, get one free.”) “We’re celebrating our anniversary with cheese pizza for only $19.71” (Note: A large Lou’s pizza is normally $19.25 ?) “Make two visits this month and spend over $50 and get a $10 reward.” (What they don’t tell you is that after visiting twice and spending over $50 in a month, you have 30 days to use the reward on another order or lose it.) Every Lou’s advertisement and email is a deception.

I am not sure what happened to there pizza but it is nothing like it was back in the day. It looks more like a thin pizza than anything else. Hardly any sauce . For what the charge . I’m not sure if it’s this location in Rockford . Giordanos is way better and so thick . I call it like I see it . Just can not believe how the quality has suffered. I ordered all the time when they first opened and it was so good . NOT ANYMORE. I really do not think I will be back .
