I ordered egg drop soup and beef chow mein.
The soup I received was a clear cabbage soup — no egg ribbons, no thickness, and nothing resembling egg drop soup at all. The main dish was also wrong: instead of beef chow mein with noodles, I was given a combo-style plate with fried rice, beef and cabbage in brown sauce, and an egg roll. There were no noodles.
Photos are attached so others can see exactly what was delivered. This wasn’t a minor mistake — it was a completely different order.

I came to Lotus to have a great meal before attending an event, but the experience was extremely disappointing. Our waiter, Roberto, provided terrible service from start to finish. He ignored our table and refused to properly check in on us, the busser was the one who actually came to see if we needed anything, even though the restaurant was not busy at all.
He was also very forgetful. He failed to bring what I specifically asked for and instead replaced it with something else without explaining why. When I questioned why the wrong plate was placed on our table, he responded with a smart remark and tried to brush off the issue instead of taking accountability. It wasn’t until I made the problem very clear that it was even addressed.
The overall customer service was unprofessional and careless. Coming from a waitress myself, I understand how service works, and this was not it. If someone cannot provide basic, attentive service, they should not be working as a waiter. This experience really took away from what should have been an enjoyable evening.

First time, craving Chinese and we’re around Brownsville area so I did my research found this place, first time good impression.
Generous amount of food, good flavor, variety of items/plates to choose from.
Service was good our waitress did good service, plus we had another waitress that wasn’t even ours & they were on top making sure we didn’t need anything. Will be going again.

Stoped in yesterday for a late lunch and first time to eat at this location. Nice clean, friendly service, quickly served and the food was top notch! Some of the best I have had in a long time. The hot sour soup spot on, delicious sesame sushi roll. Had cashew chicken lunch special yummy and plentiful! Def will go back and highly recommend!

I’ve lived in many places that have many Chinese food options – Los Angeles, San Diego, Boston, San Antonio, etc. None of them get the comfort, takeout Chinese food right. It can be borderline nasty. Lotus cafe is the only place that does it right! Good quality, fresh, savory, not too salty, good portions and price point. Loaded with the chili oil on top… I’m already excited about my leftovers. Lotus cafe — satisfying my Chinese food cravings for over 30 years.

My 1st time of ordering the Hong Kong Crispy Noodles and I chose roasted pork as my protein- DELICIOUS!!! Everything came seperate/ Noodles, broth ( extremely flavorful & very light ) that contained spices & veggies + Chiles and I put everything together ( allowing me to control noodle portion to my own liking… ) in large bowl
I also ordered the vegetable spring (2) rolls @ $4.75 and duck sauce to eat them with. Yummy!
This meal is different, lighter than their other choices/ soup consistency & enough for 2-3 ppl to share as an appetizer or as a meal for 2 @ $12.75

The food was hot and delicious, and the food was very flavorful. The service was good, and the waitress was attentive. Plates are very well served and food tastes fresh. The soups were very flavorful too.

I usually always eat here but today is the last time they see me there. Most rudest girl I’ve spoken to on the phone don’t know if she was a manager and if she is she shouldn’t be one. Ordered a plate and they messed up on it and she had the audacity to say it wasn’t their mistake. They overcharged me as well and she claims they didn’t. She’s very horrible at explaining and she was also yelling with a nasty attitude not letting me talk. This was sunday 11/9 and morning time around 11 am or 12pm, she obviously woke up in a bad mood today.

Not bad for being on the Mexican Border. The Chinese Communist Party plexiglass and masks still seem to be the fad. The staff were attentive and friendly. The eggrolls were not the best. Basically your standard frozen ones you can get in any freezer section at any store. The BBQ ribs were really good though. This restaurant is all in all pretty good.. The selection is not bad, the flavors are outa the ordinary for the Valley! Bottom line, it’s a good spot for Chinese food in Brownsville.
