Hello St John’s neighbors, I have been coming to Los Portales since I moved in 2020 my husband always orders Mojarra Frita (fried fish) I highly recommend it, delicious!!! I order birria tacos Wow so good not even on the menu! I just ask to see if they had it and Bingo This is delicious

The best Mexican restaurant in Saint Johns!
Strong $3 happy hour margs (or $6 reg) fresh crispy draft beer.
Queso dip that is cheesy creamy. Guac is thick and flavorful. Free refillable chips and salsa unlike the newer Mexican restaurants.
If you are a group (or like to drink, no judging here) I would suggest getting a pitcher of margs for $19, it has about 5 glasses
My mother got the pilatillo del mar- grilled shrimp and swai fish (similar to tilapia but less fatty) served either rice, guac and lettuce. My dad got the shrimp fajitas which has an ample serving of shrimp. I got the pollo sinalounse which is grilled chicken breast covering in flavorful mushrooms and queso, served with rice and guac and lettuce.
The tacos are amazing and have ample meat.
Love the place and the service is always excellent. Prices are extremely reasonable.

Service is always great. The nicest people work here. Food is “ok”, nothing I’d ever give amazing reviews about. Our enchiladas supremas were warm at best. Presentation of food is better than the taste.

Best Mexican food in the Jacksonville area. Los Portales is friendly, fast, and always delicious. You’re greeted with free chips and salsa, with free refills. And then treated to amazing food that comes out steaming hot surprisingly fast. Prices are extremely reasonable, and the house margaritas are half-off ($3) most of the week! Don’t miss this gem.

Not to often I go ahead and update a review, but it had been over a year since my wife and I went here and the place has really improved!
Went for dinner, it was busy but we were seated quickly, they has very good fresh salsa and chips, and our food was out very fast.
The food though, not only is it a lot and economical, very good quality. I had Enchiladas Poblanas which is chicken enchiladas covered in mole sauce. This is the BEST mole sauce I’ve ever had. I just want a bathtub of the stuff to bath in it’s just that good. Try something with the mole sauce you will not be disappointed here!
Atmosphere is pleasant and I can tell they like Soccer here too.
Definitely going back and not waiting a whole year either.

This is our favorite Mexican restaurant in the whole Jacksonville area, both for carryout and dine-in. I’m not one to give out five-star reviews casually and Los Portales doesn’t quite reach that level, but it’s very close. We’ve had a few disappointments over the years, but overall we’re very happy with the food and the service, and we pick-up or dine in several times per month consistently.

Pretty solid Mexican food and affordable!
We went on Tuesday and I had the taco special ($1.50 for hardshell tacos only) and they were fantastic. Fresh toppings and a homemade flour tortilla perfectly fried as the shell.
My companion had a California burrito from the specialty menu and it was perfectly cooked and had generous portions of fillings and sides. She actually ended up taking most of it home!
In addition we shared a guacamole appetizer and it was also fresh and tasty.
Minus one star for slow seating and service but otherwise a great experience.
Definitely worth a look!
