Dined for two visiting from Texas, no strangers to great Tex-mex and authentic Mexican food. We appreciated the story of the restaurant, the charm of the interior and exterior of the building, the friendly staff, and quick service.
We ordered the chicken chimichanga combo, beef enchiladas with red sauce, and a corn tamale. The chimichanga was delicious and a large portion. The tamale was also great, not dry, and a great sauce in top. The enchiladas were not my favorite. Nothing bad about them, but nothing stood out about them either. Based on the great seasoning of the chicken chimichangas, I would rather order chicken than beef here. I do appreciate how hot and quickly the food came out though. Overall, I would recommend as a decent casual spot, but would not go out of my way to visit again.

We’ve returned to this restaurant for years, and it has long been a reliable stop whenever we’re in Scottsdale. It’s been a place we’ve recommended without hesitation—particularly for the tacos, which until now have consistently justified their reputation.
This visit, however, marked a clear departure from that standard.
At a price point exceeding eight dollars per hard-shell taco after tax and tip, expectations naturally rise. What arrived instead were tacos served in store-bought shells, lacking both the craftsmanship and value implied by the menu. At this level, execution matters. When a dish is this simple, the details are the entire point.
To be clear, not everything missed the mark. The beans and rice were excellent—well-seasoned and thoughtfully prepared. The front-of-house experience was also strong: we were greeted promptly, the staff was attentive, and our to-go order was presented with care in a beautifully organized bag. The service reflected pride and professionalism.
But food sets the ceiling.
I don’t mind paying premium prices when quality and portion justify the cost. Here, they did not. In fact, after leaving, we stopped at another nearby taco shop and ordered a breakfast burrito—substantial, well-made, and satisfying—for the same price. The contrast was difficult to ignore.
As shown in the photos, the difference between a freshly fried, house-made shell and a mass-produced alternative is immediately apparent. At this price point, the latter feels out of place and below the standard this restaurant has set for itself over the years.
This experience was disappointing precisely because of the restaurant’s history and potential. For now, we’ll be taking a break and hope that a future visit reflects the level of care and quality that once made this place a standout.

So we’ve been coming to Los Olivos for over 20 years and tonight ended it. We will never come back again. My son grabbed a chip and it had mold on it, he showed it to the waiter and the waiter just took the chip and took the basket and didn’t say anything. The manager didn’t even offer a discount or apologize. I can’t even believe that the service and the food has gotten so bad. Serving moldy chips to people especially kids, can be super dangerous and even make people extremely sick. All I can say is I can no longer recommend Los Olivos as a great place to go for Mexican food. All of my business will end up going to Manuel’s, better food, better service and a much better atmosphere. Good riddance Los Olivos!

What an awesome restaurant in Scottsdale! We did not have reservations and we were seated in about 5 minutes! Our server was Alana and she was attentive and quick to meet our requests. Kind and happy! Food was authentic and tasty! Highly recommend!

Only a five minute wait for a table of 5. Staff was friendly and professional, had an eye on us throughout our dinner and kept our cups filled. Personally, I really enjoy tons of flavor and heat from chile… and as a first timer here, I was very disappointed. I may give it another chance but not any time in the near future.

Group of us went to bridal expo next door which was a bummer with only 15 vendors inside the lobby, so we needed a margarita to cheer us up! We ended up getting 2 mini samplers and pitcher of Cadillac margarita! Drinks were strong but tasty, we were all buzzing! The samplers were delicious and they weren’t stingy with the salsas or Guacamole!! Atmosphere was awesome! Definitely enjoyed our time there. Staff and management were amazing and helped us save some money by getting the pitcher for same price would have been for 3 drinks. They even opened the door couple minutes early bc they saw us sitting outside. Great friendly and attentive service!! Btw first time there for 3 of us! My mom actually went there couple weeks ago for comedy show!! Last picture! We had a nice buzz feeling..

We were recommended to try this restaurant by a local while in Scottsdale for a business trip. The place itself is very cool to see, but the experience was just odd. The staff was nice. The first server gave us 2 jars of salsa and plates to eat it off of. You weren’t actually able to eat the salsa off the plate or scoop any up. We all ordered tacos, and the meat did not seem seasoned at all. It tasted like it was just boiled ground beef with peppers and onions, not even pan fried/browned. Not a trace of any seasoning. I have never experienced more bland food before from a restaurant, let alone a Mexican place. This place has major potential. Drinks were pretty good. Pricing is very decent for the area.

This place is such an old Scottsdale classic! Still here after 79 years, still cranking out good taco’s, cheese crisp and classic Mexican food, they are still cranking out great margaritas in a classic atmosphere! I Love it here, I’ll be back!

Our food was tasteless & the server seemed too busy to be friendly. The restaurant wasn’t crowded. I ordered shrimp enchiladas. The shrimp was chopped into tiny pieces instead of whole (I’ve had shrimp enchiladas at other restaurants & never had chopped up shrimp) & it was covered in a lot of very runny red sauce. There wasn’t a bit of flavor or spice in the shrimp or the sauce. 4 of us ordered meals & mine wasn’t delivered until the other 3 people had already finished their meals. The server told me she was taking it off our bill because of the slow kitchen. The other couple shared fajitas. It was a generous serving for 2 but also flavorless. We won’t be going back.

First experience with Los Olivos. Great old family restaurant. Great salsa and Cadillac margaritas. I had the machaca which was perfect. Weird decor on the patio with the Montezuma with the blue eyes above the stage. Positive experience overall.
