We got off the boat and headed straight to the beachfront tables. Found the perfect shady spot with the waves as our background music. Easy, relaxed, exactly what you want on a beach day.
We ordered a shrimp cocktail , chicharrón taco , fried calamaries , and three heavenly tacos with cheese . Plus a few drinks, because… beach day. Everything was solid, but the salsas stole the show. I’ve had plenty of salsas in my life, but these were on another level. Michelin-star vibes, no exaggeration.
It’s a bit pricier than town, but totally fair for the remote location and those front row seats to the ocean.
For me, the con is the chairs. We didn’t bring towels thinking some of the beach clubs might provide them. I know, not the smartest move. That left us with dirty chairs with no cushions.
In all, still a solid place to spend your day.
But then we saw the stressed out parrots in a small dirty cage with no sort of enrichment or space. There was no water either. They had pecked on their cage from boredom and its condition reflected that. They were also feather plucking, likely from stress.
If it was not for the animal mistreatment, I may have give a 2 star simply because I feel like a 1 star can be aggressive, but animal mistreatment deserves a negative star if it were possible.
I would highly recommend visiting this location.
+ delicious food, best shrimp ceviche I ate in my life
+ very good cocktails
– it was EXPENSIVE. We paid $150 cad for one appetizer, one main, and 4 cocktails. Seems like a lot for a regular beach bar, nothing fancy
– it was upsetting to see parrots locked in small, dirty, cages
We were told a water taxi to Boca would be provided if we spent a minimum of $100 mxn each.
We spent about $250 mxn each and when I asked for our taxi, we were put in a boat.
When the boat reached Boca the taxi operator demanded $150 mxn from each of us. After a short protest we decided to pay him so we could be on our way.
Very bad experience. I feel like we were scammed by the restaurant, or the boat operator, or both.
The hike from Boca to Las Animas was very enjoyable but this experience left a black mark on the day.
We ordered the blackened shrimp, and it was the BEST shrimp we have ever eaten. We even had to come back prior to closing for another order.
The service was incredible attentive, our drinks were always full and the staff including Gabriel were all wonderful.
