There is a reason Los Balkanes has been a Miami Lakes staple since 1989—the food is consistently delicious. Coming here always brings back great childhood memories, and the flavors are just as good as I remember.
The Good:
The bakery items are incredibly tasty and authentic. Whether you’re grabbing pandebono or a full meal, you can tell they know what they’re doing. The service was friendly and professional during my visit.
Things to Note:
Pricing: It’s a bit on the pricier side for a bakery, but the quality usually justifies the cost.
Seating: My only real complaint is the lack of seating. It’s hard to enjoy that fresh food when there’s nowhere to sit down. Adding a few bench seats or small tables would make a world of difference for the customer experience.
Overall, it’s a local classic that I’ll keep coming back to for the nostalgia and the great food. Definitely worth a stop!

Los Balkanes is a good Colombian bakery, and I’ve been coming here for years. It’s actually the only place I’ve found that sells authentic Colombian papa rellena. I’ve tried many other bakeries throughout Miami-Dade and Broward County, and none of them have the Colombian papa rellena like Los Balkanes does.

The prices for the papa rellenas have gone up, but to be fair, they are big and filling, so you do get a good portion. Overall, it’s a good Colombian bakery if you’re looking for Colombian food!

Very disappointed with today’s experience. I placed a large order ($80) over two hours in advance, including 20 pandebonos, 7 empanadas, and 2 yuca breads, which were verbally confirmed when I ordered. When I arrived, I was told the yuca breads were never set aside and had already been sold, with no apology or attempt to make it right.
To make matters worse, 4 of the pandebonos were burnt and rock hard, mixed in with the rest. The order was bagged and tightly tied, making it difficult to review before leaving. As a regular customer, I trusted the quality and didn’t expect this.

ADVICE to other Customers: check and verify your food before you leave, even if your order was confirmed ahead of time.

*A Recommendation for Management*: like other quality restaurants, orders should be shown to customers for acknowledgment before leaving. Greater transparency helps avoid situations where customers feel lower-quality items are being passed off instead of addressed.

In conclusion, a very disappointing experience.

The papa rellena’s here are the best and that is what keeps me coming back, but the empanadas and the hard & overly fried Chicharrons are a hit or miss.

The rude workers with snarky comments in Spanish believing I don’t speak Spanish is pretty funny, and long ridiculous lines on the weekends will have you turning away. Other than that I would say this restaurant is definitely worth a visit.. for their papa rellenas..

I have been a faithful customer for over 20 years. I have recommended friends and family to your establishment. Today I marked the end of my giving them business. I have attached a copy of my invoice to show how ridiculous their pricing has become. I frequent another Colombian bakery now that sells the same for half the cost. Shame on you for gouging your clients.

I went there cause I’d heard the food was good, but honestly if the customer service was horrible doesn’t matter how good the food was I won’t go there ever again. All 3 latin servers were horrible, they were mean and had lack of customer service skills. The colombian lady was the WORSE! Muy grosera y una falta de respeto!!!

I visited this place to eat breakfast. I think that their food needs more seasoning for me. The food tastes very simple and plain. For cuban people, this food is very unflavored.

The empanadas and the chorizo and the buñuelos were good. I didn’t like the rice. The worst part is that they don’t even have chairs to sit! The service was good and the waitress/cashier was very nice!
