No brainer, but you should eat here. It’s exactly what you want for breakfast if you are traveling through the Land of Enchantment. Service was quick, perfect if you just stayed the night & you need to hit the road again.

Lots of love about this place, but unfortunately neither the advertised daily specials were available nor did the stacked replacement enchiladas (microwaved?)— ordered green, originally got red—lived up to the promise of great authentic NM food. The green sauce in the bean burrito was amazing, but watered down on the plate. Two of the servers were sweet and kind, one not at all. But everyone’s allowed a bad day, right?

Loretta’s Burrito Hut
Route 66 Tucumcari, New Mexico

Tucumcari, New Mexico is filled with lots of friendly people. We have met some of the friendliest people while dining at some of Tucumcari’s restaurants and Diner. We have had a great experience at all three restaurants and Loretta’s Burrito was just as fantastic and offered some delicious New Mexican food at the restaurant.

The service was excellent we were seated immediately. We didn’t realize it but our server Crystal ( I believe that was her name) was Loretta’s daughter and gave us great service with a smile. The other staff members were great as well and were very attentive to the restaurant patrons. The restaurant is spacious and nicely decorated.

We actually had dined here twice. We had breakfast the first day and lunch the following day. Each time the food was delicious. Loretta’s style of food is homecoming and you can definitely taste it in every bite. Crystal also is a fantastic baker as we tried the cheesecake she had made. It was a great way to end the meal.

On our last day in Tucumcari we met the owner who happened to be seated next to us. We had a great conversation and we were told that their family has lots of History with this restaurant which was once called the Sahara Sands Restaurant. It was so nice to meet her and while we were dining we spoke about her family history at the restaurant and her food. There are actually three generations that works there. Loretta also notice that Chucks beans were missing something and she has her staff bring out some chicharron to add to his beans. Those were a great addition to his beans.

Overall our experience here was great. This is one reason we dined here twice. This is a family owned restaurant that makes you feel like you are part of their family.

We just stopped for breakfast. We actually stopped due to the negative review about the Christian music. We are Christian’s, my husband and I, and we personally enjoy when a company shows their love for the Lord.
Thank you Miss Loretta for doing just that.
We had to opportunity to speak a bit with Miss Loretta, who is also the owner, very nice and pleasant lady.
We travel the country and we always look for the lil mom and pop places. We highly recommend this little restaurant. The food was amazing! I had the breakfast bowl and my husband, the smothered burrito.
the food is so delicious.
The Christian music (K-Love) and decor adds that special touch to restaurant.
If you are in the area or just passing through this is a must stop. If you get a chance to speak to Miss Loretta it will be like the cherry on a Sunday!
Thank you Miss Loretta for the amazing food and service, God bless you and your business!

As soon as we walked in I noticed the nice decor. The inside of the restaurant is very unique and cozy. I noticed all the Route 66 items and I didn’t know why there was so much Route 66 items. I searched it up to see that it was one of the first major highways. It was a very nice history lesson. I ordered the honeydew agua fresca and I have to say it was so delicious. It was sweet but not too sweet like how some other honeydew waters are. The chips and salsa were good. The salsa was not spicy but it did have a bit of the flavor. The salsa was overall good and it was paired with a burrito. We ordered the enchiladas with the red sauce, the cheese green meat burrito, and the street tacos de asada. I have never in my life seen enchiladas that were not rolled so that was a surprise. The red sauce is a mixture of chili gravy/carne and a traditional red sauce and it was good. The cheese green meat burrito was ok but I wish it was spicier. The street tacos were ok as well. The locals were really friendly so it was nice to experience that. In the end the experience was ok/good but nothing was really amazing.

Family business, good food and daily specials. I had street taco plate, came with beans and rice and very filling. Good chips and salsa while waiting, though I can stand my salsa hotter than most, so Loretta brought me jalapenos bless her. Good for family dining out, good prices, big servings.

Wouldn’t have recognized the food if i didnt know what i had ordered. Couldnt tell if there was any meat and it was quite bland. They also filled up my 32oz drink to the lid with ice and barely left any room for soda.

Came here for the first time on Wednesday and fell in love with the food. My first bite reminded me of grandmas cooking. Everything is fresh and made to order. This is the only place in Tucumcari that offers meat in there chili. We almost thought she was from Colorado. If your in town do not skip this place.

We were on our way back to Texas and we needed coffee and breakfast badly. We stopped in Santa Rosa, no dice. Restaurants either didn’t open until later or were closed permanently. Boo! We thought we were going to strike out in Tucumcari, but in the distance I saw Loretta’s welcoming neon sign.
We entered a super-clean and cute little family owned place, seated and waited on promptly. Breakfast tacos for my husband, breakfast burrito for me. It was like my abuelita made it, so fresh and good. I took most of it home. The coffee was hot and delicious. The tacos and burritos are loaded with eggs, bacon, and potatoes.
We left extremely satisfied. The prices are great, the bathroom scrupulously clean.
I’m bummed that we don’t have a place like this closer to me, but if you’re in or passing through Tucumcari hit Loretta up for lunch or brekkie. I honestly believe you won’t be sorry!
She will answer any questions quickly through Messenger. She’s on Facebook.
