We sat at the bar with server and bartender, Austin. He made our entire experience truly outstanding. Beautiful restaurant with beautiful people working there. Everyone was courteous, kind and friendly. The food was exceptional, especially the chestnut bisque, I would come in for by itself. I ordered the catch of the day, which came with mussels. After a past experience with having a bad mussel at another restaurant, I was both leery and reluctant to try them. The beautiful server with dark hair and glasses reassured me, they were fresh and I would not have any problems. She was correct, the dish with rockfish was outstanding. Now, back to Austin. He was such a great guy, funny, engaging, and absolutely everything. I highly recommend L’Opossum and make your reservation for the bar. You’ll have an opportunity to interact with the entire staff at some point. They all will take very good care of you. Bon Appetit!

I had such a great experience at L’ Opossum. The decor is fun and eclectic, the music creates a unique upbeat atmosphere, the service was great, and the food was outstanding! It’s my new favorite restaurant in Richmond, Va. This restaurant is worth spending your time and money. Make sure you have a reservation, it’s very popular.

What a delightfully quirky, fun 80s vibe restaurant! The names of some of the menu items are hilarious. They were very attentive and accommodating with regards to my treenut allergies and I was still able to enjoy several menu items. Get the Bundt Pirate dessert if it’s on the menu. It exceeded our expectations!!! Can’t wait to go back the next time we’re in Richmond

Solo dining drop in experience at the bar. I loved the kitschy restaurant decor. Every dish was delicious but the duck and apple pie were out of this world good.

I mean, it’s L’Opossum, yeah? Perfect on many levels. Tonight, the salad was especially on point. Sounds weird, but the combo of flavors was kinda electrifying. Tuna, pork croquettes, and the swellington rounded out a great experience. Thank you.

what a beautiful and well-curated experience! my partner works in fine dining though we often don’t get the chance to go out to eat due to conflicting work schedules, and we wanted to go somewhere extra special for our anniversary. we had been looking forward to this for months, and it blew away our expectations. the staff were very attentive but not overbearing, knowledgeable on the menu, and all congratulated us on our anniversary. you could tell every piece of food on the plate was placed with intention, you could see every ingredient when the dish was brought out, and the flavors all really shone through. I could go on and on about how lovely all the little details were, but you just need to experience it for yourself!! (pictured: tempura battered squash blossom stuffed with buttermilk ricotta, “swank bank” lobster mac & cheese, quail stuffed with pork cheek, jock snifter, & peach cobbler with buttermilk bourbon ice cream)

We visited for our anniversary. The hostess was very welcoming and wished us happy anniversary right away. We thankfully were seated at a booth which was lovely and we really preferred it rather than the row of tables down the middle. Our server was great and gave us a rose prosecco to celebrate. We started with the grilled Caesar which was excellent. I would love to try to recreate this at home because it was so good! For our main dish, my husband had the Morrocan chicken dish which had layers of flavor and was delicious. I had the fillet which was one of the best I have ever had. From the ambiance to the drinks to the food this was my favorite meal I have had in Richmond. It is worth the hype!

We came here for our 10th anniversary…we had the escargot–which was fabulous–a bottle of wine, and ordered the Quail and Lamb Belly for entrees. For dessert we had some chocolate thing recommende that was excellent and something like an elevated apple pie which was also excellent. The vibe was cool w the music playing, and such an eclectic atmosphere. Service was outstanding at the bar. It’s hard to get a reservation so plan more than a month in advance. 5 stars!

It insists upon itself.
The tuna crudo was delightful, the soup of the day (chestnut soup with a molasses drizzle) was unbalanced and far too sweet with a heavy-handed amount of molasses, the catch of the day (rockfish with mussels and large white beans) was unbalanced and far too acidic, the “beef swellington” featured underseasoned green beans, charred yet undercooked carrots, under/poorly cooked mushrooms, topped by a tiny sachet of duxelles with pastry that tasted of raw flour. This dish was bafflingly topped by a towering sprig of fresh thyme. If dishes were rated by height, this would have been a winner.
My rare steak was sent out medium rare and was remade and comped. I wrongly assumed a restaurant at this price point would know how to properly temp a steak. The music was loud and the decor was tacky. Lots of terrible cover songs. The curtain that customers pass through to enter was a stained vector for communicable illness.
The plating was at least twice as good as the food itself, and I would actively urge all of my acquaintances to spend their money at SEN Organic or Midlothian Chef’s Kitchen rather than L’Opossum.
I was in such a rush to leave that I forgot to pay, and the excellent waitress came to my car to remind me. I usually send my card with the waitress when I request my bill, but I forgot and when my tab was brought to my table, I was confused by the absence of a tipping section and wrongly assumed this restaurant was among the avante garde that pay their staff a living wage.

Took my wife for an anniversary dinner and it was phenomenal! Our server was so nice and funny, she explained things well and checked on us often. Every single employee there was so sweet. The decor is so cool and the food is delicious! It was such a fun experience and really made our first anniversary memorable. Thank you so much!
