Hidden gem French Bistro in Gulfgate, Sarasota FL. We had a Bonjour Croissant (egg / ham) w/ French potatoes, French Toast and a side of bacon. Couldn’t leave without taking a croissant to go. I want to try one of everything in their bakery case! Their lunch menu looks great. They have Vegan items as well. We’ll be back!

L’Opera is pretty much a one-of-a-kind French Bistro within the greater Sarasota area. I’ve been to quite a few bistros and bakeries with the “word” French either in the name or tag line, but if you really want something made from scratch and made by a true French pastry chef, then there is only one place to go, L’Opera.
I order my crepes with added brie and spinach and always find them to be absolutely delicious. The creaminess and flavor are amazing! I chose the salad as my side which has a unique dressing that I haven’t found anywhere else.
Nothing beats their plain croissants at 7:30 in the morning! Still warm with a crispy exterior and a soft, fluffy, and buttery interior. There are other flavors too, and a host of other pastries, all of which are made from scratch on site. I have to discipline myself not to go daily to buy their bread. Multiple flavor profiles to pick from. Very addictive!
Nothing goes better with all of the delicious food and pastries as a Cappuccino (or whatever you prefer), and they serve a top-notch coffee! Intense and flavorful!
They make custom cakes too! We recently celebrated my wife’s birthday with a Strawberry Charlotte Russe that was both beautiful and absolutely delicious!

A good place to buy French baguettes and have breakfast. I tried the croque monsieur there — it was decent. I also tried their omelets, but I wasn’t thrilled with the taste or the presentation. They have a good selection of baked goods, though their almond croissants aren’t that good — the ones at Costco taste much better. The peach tart was okay. This café is slightly overpriced for what you get, but I am happy to pay extra for the French music in the background.

They’re very welcoming and accommodating to my mother’s vegan diet. Most restaurants offer a limited menu during specific time slots. However, they exceeded our expectations by providing a comprehensive dining experience time a day. They also have a vegan selection of pastries and food, which is really great, for those vegan lovers out there! Highly recommend this place authentic homemade food
Also, They made a new pastry that is pistachio and hazelnut croissant! It’s so mouthwatering

My husband and I had brunch at Opera Bakery last week. We felt like we were eating in France. Everything was so fresh and delicious. The french toast is “ to die for”. We will be back often!

You know it’s good when you see multiple people walk in and out with fresh bread and bakery items while you’re enjoying a meal. Smelled amazing when I walked in. The 2 French gentlemen working were extremely nice and pleasant. And those croissants. Soft and perfectly baked. Took some to go, along with a sourdough and baguette. If you want fresh bread, you better get there early before it’s gone.

I cannot express how utterly delighted I am with my experience at L’Opera Bakery Bistro! From the moment I walked in, the aroma of freshly baked croissants and rich coffee enveloped me in pure bliss. This place is a hidden gem in Sarasota, and it deserves every bit of praise it gets—and more!
The croissants are hands down the best I’ve ever tasted—flaky, buttery perfection with a golden crust that melts in your mouth. Paired with their exquisite coffee, it’s a match made in heaven. The entire menu is a masterpiece; every dish I tried was crafted with such love and attention to detail that it felt like a warm hug from a French chef. The ambiance, with its charming decor and inviting atmosphere, only added to the joy of savoring each bite.
The staff’s warmth and genuine care made me feel like a cherished guest, not just a customer. To the team at L’Opera—thank you for creating such a magical experience. This is not just a bakery; it’s a sanctuary of flavor and hospitality. I’ll be back weekly, if not daily, and I’m already telling everyone I know to visit. You’ve set a new standard for what breakfast should be—absolutely unparalleled!

Very enjoyable spot for a casual French breakfast or lunch. Quality ingredients nicely prepared. Fresh breads and pastries are excellent. Need to come on the early side since some of the breads sell out fairly often
