We found a seat at the bar and quickly ordered two drinks – a glass of wine and a Markers. We finished our drinks after about 20 minutes and were never offered a refill. For over 20 additional minutes we occupied the bar area with empty glasses. Cashed out but only tipped 15% when our table was ready. The staff could have more than doubled their tip if we received 2 more drinks, and I pretty much always usually tip at least 20%. Not tonight.
Once at our table it did take a minute for the waitress to come greet us. They were busy, so again, to be expected. Ordered another round of drinks and an appetizer. The waitress returned a few minutes later to get our dinner order – a pair of steaks. It was at this point the service at Longhorn fell apart.
Our Cesar salads came to the table before we even received our appetizer. I hate it when this happens. It’s such a rookie waitress move and I would think Longhorn would train their staff for this not to happen. But it did.
Shortly after receiving the salads the appetizer arrived at the table. We pushed our salads off to the side and worked on our shrimp.
Naturally, our steaks arrived at the table before we were 1/2 way through the appetizer. We had not even touched our salads, yet. We had not seen our waitress in quite some time when the food runner delivered our steaks, and I’m sure the looks on our faces when the steaks arrived so early were concerning. The steaks were slid to the edge of the table to make room for the other food.
After finishing the appetizer, our drinks were empty, again. Still no waitress. We were seated right next to the entrance to the kitchen and many staff members, including floor managers, passed us every few seconds. No refills. No eye contact. No waitress. No service. We could not even see the waitress on the floor. She was just gone.
Often, staff and managers, would gather at a wait station just a few feet away and hang out and chat. We could not get their attention while seated.
We finished our salads and started on our main course. I was almost exactly 1/2 way through my steak before the waitress showed back up to ask how everything was. We finally got some drink refills.
The food was good and the steaks were cooked just right.
The service from the staff killed the experience for us, and of course I only tipped 15% to the waitress as well. The establishment lost in the neighborhood of $40 in additional drink sales, and the staff missed out on a few bucks, too. Not expecting 5-Star service at a Longhorn, but management has missed out on some pretty basic service 101 do’s and don’ts when it comes to training their staff.
Miranda S @51 Burgess Road did a very good job with us.
She was nice and super friendly.
They even sang for my baby girl.
We appreciate her.
