Went for Valentine’s Day with my boyfriend this past Saturday and everything was astounding. The first thing is the view!!! The view of the city is gorgeous, so surreal. The vibe inside of the dining room was relaxing; although there were so many other people having dinner, it wasn’t loud at all and the live music for part of the night was very nice. Service was absolutely excellent and the food + drinks were incredible. We loved everything on the preset menu. The staff that night did a wonderful job of making sure the night ran smoothly.

I think the views here are incredible and the staff is very friendly. The food is very good, each dish is great. I think the drinks are nice too! I especially liked the chickpea bites. I took off a star because I came for my birthday, but they didn’t do anything for it, which most restaurants do, so I think they could improve on that. I don’t know why they ask if you’re celebrating something special if they aren’t going to wish you.

8/29 The views of New York City are undeniably stunning, but the service left much to be desired. Our server was inattentive—I waited over 30 minutes for a cocktail, didn’t receive silverware until after the food had gone cold, and had to repeatedly flag someone down despite the restaurant not being busy. On the bright side, the oysters were very fresh, and while some appetizers felt a bit mismatched, they were decent. The lamb chops with garlic mashed potatoes were absolutely outstanding. Unfortunately, the short rib polenta was a major letdown—completely lacking in seasoning and flavor. In the end, it feels clear that what you’re really paying for here is the incredible view, rather than the overall dining experience.

Update: 9/20 I came back for brunch with my son, and he declared it the best brunch he’s ever had—and trust me, my 12-year-old has an exceptional palate. The food arrived hot and in a timely manner. Our server who was amazing recommended the mimosa flight, which was absolutely worth it. The highlight, though, was the cinnamon roll French toast—it was so good I ordered another to take home. This visit was an even better experience than before, and I’d easily give it a 10/10.

Had the valentines day prefix. High highs but low lows.

To drink, we had two of the mocktails which were delicious. Loved them. Wanted to mix them into one super drink but never did.

The first course was meant to be shared but only had three pieces?? Do they know 3 is not divisible by 2?

The ravioli was good but cold.

Scallops were the highlight (my only picture), but were unfortunately also cold.

My short rib was also cold. It came with a puree which I am not sure if it was some kind of squash or pumpkin, but it was phenomenal. Somehow the best part of the dish.

The dessert was a very nice chocolate mouse. Love it, left no crumbs.

Unfortunately, I am writing this review several weeks after my dinner so I do not remember every course.

Great food and magnificent views of the city. The restaurant has the perfect ambience to make you feel like you’ve stepped out of the day-to-day bustle. Only feedback is our server wasn’t very attentive so we had to keep calling him over, but we weren’t in a rush so it wasn’t a big deal.

This place was absolutely gorgeous. The energy, vibe, ambiance was great. Came at the end of brunch so ordered mimosa flights. They were so good. The food and the view was also amazing. Was really a chill time and the service was definitely A1. The server wasn’t doing to much. This place also has outdoor seating but it was just too windy to be outside. The old fashioned tasted just right and grabbed the steak and egg combo, which did not disappoint. I want to come back for dinner and try the dinner menu. Yes, the food varies depending on what time of day you come but I enjoyed the brunch menu. If you can find parking, good luck. I just parked in the paid parking next to it.

Awesome time here at Lokal Bar. They have a breathtaking location in Jersey City. Service was top notch with Faith at the bar crafting some great drinks. The happy hour was great including their 3 for $35 apps. Cannot beat the view of lower Manhattan and their gorgeous bar. Must see! Thank you!

Lokal has quickly become one of my favorite spots in Jersey City. The space has a cool, modern vibe with plenty of light and an easygoing atmosphere that makes you want to linger. Their menu is thoughtful and always feels fresh—seasonal dishes, great vegetarian options, and flavors that really stand out from the typical waterfront spots.

Brunch here is a must, with creative plates that go beyond the usual basics, and dinner never disappoints either. The cocktail list is playful and well put together, perfect to enjoy alongside the skyline views.

What really sets Lokal apart is how versatile it is—you can come for a laid-back weekend brunch, a casual bite during the week, or a lively evening with friends. It’s a neighborhood spot with character, and I’m glad it’s right nearby.

I would say my first visit here was a solid 5 star visit and today it was a 3 star. So all tg lets say 4.
My first visit we ordered the cinnamon croissant French toast and the local burger medium done. And oh man they were both equally amazing. Flavor was great and cooked perfectly for both. Also got the chicken and waffle that was fine. Food took a while but I don’t mind with the view.
As for the second visit, I ordered the local burger again (medium), the steak and eggs (medium as well), and the mascarpone pancakes. Didn’t live up to the first visit, not even close. Both the burger and steak were well-done if not very well-done in my opinion (pics included) and the pancakes were alright. Honestly mostly just disappointed with the cook level. And flavor wasn’t popping as it was before. I came back only a few weeks after bc I loved the initial visit but I think a lot of places have good and bad days. Servers were all very nice though!

Lokal is at waterfront area in Jersey City. Contemporary design and modern vibes.

However the service definitely falls short in this place. When we called to make reservation and requested no high top tables because of a toddler, they said: it’s first come first serve, we cannot guarantee anything. But isn’t that the point of making the reservation? So we can have a regular table due to our situation? Why if wheelchair customers make reservations?

When we arrived, of course they gave us a high top table. I plainly said, you guys will have to take the responsibility if something happened to the toddler.

Ordering food was no issue but I had to remind them to bring out the kid’s meal first. The food was actually decent. I liked the brunch burger. Meat was cooked beautifully and buns were buttery/fluffy.

The entire service, the kept reaching over the table to clean plates. One server asked my friend if she needed more water, she said yes and the server literally passed the water bottle to her to fill it up.

I really want to like this restaurant because it’s nice and clean and food is good. But I cannot get past the service part.
