Fast forward to 2026, after several years of trying to find this amazing place again, we finally did and stopped in for dinner and a drink. Lyndi immediately greeted us, all smiles, which reminded me why this place had stuck with me all these years.
Let me start off by saying, to this day I still believe that this is the best barbecue I have experienced in Texas, even better than Hutchins. The brisket is SO good, flavorful, and tender. What stands out the most to me though has always been their Spicy Mac & Cheese. However, they only serve it on Saturday and Sunday, and unfortunately I came in on a Friday. I had made the comment that I had been dreaming of that mac & cheese for three years so I was a little disappointed but accepted my fate and ordered the regular mac & cheese with my brisket.
A little while later, Joseph approached me at bar where I was sitting and set one of the serving cups in front of me. He told me it took a little while to make but that they had made me a single serving of the spicy mac & cheese after my comment. It brought me to tears, because they absolutely did not have to do that but I was so excited to be able to have it again.
That level of customer service is so rare, and the fact that they went out of their way like that meant the world to me.
Lockhart will forever be my favorite place and now that I’ve found y’all again, I’ll be back often.
Lyndi, Joseph, and Miguel, thank you so much for making my visit such a wonderful experience!
The decor is great and you smell the bbq that’s imbedded in the walls when you walk in. A little surprised that it wasn’t that busy but more table choices for us. I have to add its own of the more expensive bbq places. What I got here was $45 and no soda or dessert either.
Honestly evaluation, I was less impressed than I was expecting. The brisket was slightly dry but did taste good. I also had the jalapeño sausage and it was just warm (not hot) and seemed to lack taste of good seasoning inside it. The beans were good but didn’t blow me away.
Quite an expensive lunch, to not be blown away.
Edit: I should have mentioned that the bartender did come by and ask us how everything was. Maybe I should have said something, but at that point we just wanted to finish and go.
Ordered some brisket, regular sausage, Lockhart twinkie, baked beans, and mac & cheese. I use to frequent this location quite often when I lived nearby. It’s been a while since I’ve been back. I was honestly disappointed in the quality of the food. The worst was the brisket. It was so dry. It tasted like it was yesterday’s meat. I did not like their sausage, but in their defense I think I’m just not a fan of smoked sausage. Of the many places that I have had it, I’ve only liked it from 1-2 places. I will say the texture was like biting into ground beef. The twinkie was ok. The bacon was coated with something, maybe sriracha, and I wasn’t crazy about it. The baked beans were not sweet and a bit salty. The mac & cheese was very good. The restaurant itself was clean and lots of charm. The staff is always nice. Maybe I remember things differently, it has been a while, but I remember there being more than one type of sauce. Taste is subjective, but preparation is not.
The jalapeño sausage was actually very good.
Worst potato salad I think I’ve ever had in my whole life. I took two bites and threw the rest away..
Got the deviled eggs and they were decent.
Topo Chico to drink
people working there we’re actually nice
$45.67 for that.
Besides the brisket – my favs were the backed beans – deviled eggs & spicy mac&cheese!
Will definitely be going back when we visit our son.
Staff was very helpful to us being a newcomer – bartender very helpful as well.
Thank you, Lockhart Smoke House and Ray, Adrian, Joseph and Valerie!!!
