I had first visited Lockhart May of 2022 when we had traveled out to Texas to look at areas to move to and it left an everlasting impact on me. Everything was incredible, from the amazing food to the service, which was above and beyond.

Fast forward to 2026, after several years of trying to find this amazing place again, we finally did and stopped in for dinner and a drink. Lyndi immediately greeted us, all smiles, which reminded me why this place had stuck with me all these years.

Let me start off by saying, to this day I still believe that this is the best barbecue I have experienced in Texas, even better than Hutchins. The brisket is SO good, flavorful, and tender. What stands out the most to me though has always been their Spicy Mac & Cheese. However, they only serve it on Saturday and Sunday, and unfortunately I came in on a Friday. I had made the comment that I had been dreaming of that mac & cheese for three years so I was a little disappointed but accepted my fate and ordered the regular mac & cheese with my brisket.

A little while later, Joseph approached me at bar where I was sitting and set one of the serving cups in front of me. He told me it took a little while to make but that they had made me a single serving of the spicy mac & cheese after my comment. It brought me to tears, because they absolutely did not have to do that but I was so excited to be able to have it again.

That level of customer service is so rare, and the fact that they went out of their way like that meant the world to me.

Lockhart will forever be my favorite place and now that I’ve found y’all again, I’ll be back often.

Lyndi, Joseph, and Miguel, thank you so much for making my visit such a wonderful experience!

This is my second time here but the first time was several years ago. They have such a great reputation and we stopped for an early lunch around 1130 on a Friday.

The decor is great and you smell the bbq that’s imbedded in the walls when you walk in. A little surprised that it wasn’t that busy but more table choices for us. I have to add its own of the more expensive bbq places. What I got here was $45 and no soda or dessert either.

Honestly evaluation, I was less impressed than I was expecting. The brisket was slightly dry but did taste good. I also had the jalapeño sausage and it was just warm (not hot) and seemed to lack taste of good seasoning inside it. The beans were good but didn’t blow me away.

Quite an expensive lunch, to not be blown away.

Bold flavors, variety of meats. One of the best BBQ spots around. I wish they give the food on a tray instead of wrapping it in paper, for the people who are dining in. The bar also had an excellent choice of drinks to pair with the food.

Absolutely worth the stop! Lockhart Smokehouse delivered amazing burnt ends—tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The side dishes were just as impressive and full of Southern comfort. Staff was super friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. We’ll definitely be back!

2nd visit update: I promised I would come back and give it another try. This time around I ordered ribs, mac and cheese, and brisket. The ribs were very good. Definitely my favorite from Lockhart. Their mac and cheese is always great. The brisket was much better this time around. The flavor was better, definitely juicer. As always, service is always good. I am glad I came back. Was the brisket back up to par as before, not 100%. I will say in their defense, I came in late in the day. I’m sure had I arrived around noon it would have probably been top notch. Please don’t get me wrong. What I ate today I would gladly eat again, every time. My original rating was 3 stars, I am glad to change it to a 5.

Edit: I should have mentioned that the bartender did come by and ask us how everything was. Maybe I should have said something, but at that point we just wanted to finish and go.

Ordered some brisket, regular sausage, Lockhart twinkie, baked beans, and mac & cheese. I use to frequent this location quite often when I lived nearby. It’s been a while since I’ve been back. I was honestly disappointed in the quality of the food. The worst was the brisket. It was so dry. It tasted like it was yesterday’s meat. I did not like their sausage, but in their defense I think I’m just not a fan of smoked sausage. Of the many places that I have had it, I’ve only liked it from 1-2 places. I will say the texture was like biting into ground beef. The twinkie was ok. The bacon was coated with something, maybe sriracha, and I wasn’t crazy about it. The baked beans were not sweet and a bit salty. The mac & cheese was very good. The restaurant itself was clean and lots of charm. The staff is always nice. Maybe I remember things differently, it has been a while, but I remember there being more than one type of sauce. Taste is subjective, but preparation is not.

do not go here expecting good brisket. The brisket has zero flavor, no smoke ring and was overcooked.
The jalapeño sausage was actually very good.
Worst potato salad I think I’ve ever had in my whole life. I took two bites and threw the rest away..
Got the deviled eggs and they were decent.
Topo Chico to drink
people working there we’re actually nice
$45.67 for that.

east coast guy in Texas with my son looking for apartments in the Richardson – Plano area. Many locals recommend Lockhart’s Smokehouse & it DID NOT disappoint! amazing brisket – tried every side they offered & their jalapeño popper (which someone said is called a Texas pickle) EVERYTHING was delicious.

Besides the brisket – my favs were the backed beans – deviled eggs & spicy mac&cheese!

Will definitely be going back when we visit our son.

Staff was very helpful to us being a newcomer – bartender very helpful as well.

First time here and had an awesome experience! Delicious and tender brisket served by weight. There are plenty of tables and staff, but it’s a great place to get the meats and sides to go, as well. We ordered 1/2 pound of brisket and mac & cheese and 2 great beers and ate there. It was a great first experience. The guys, Ray, Adrian and Joseph, and gal, Valerie, behind the counters provided excellent service. The food was amazing. We will be back!

Thank you, Lockhart Smoke House and Ray, Adrian, Joseph and Valerie!!!

We were in Plano from DC for a cheer competition and wanted to squeeze in some authentic Texas BBQ. TikTok led us to this gem, and it did not disappoint. Josh welcomed us the moment we walked in, and when we reached the counter, Ray and Joseph took incredible care of us. We were a bit indecisive, but they walked us through the menu with patience and enthusiasm, offering recommendations that turned out to be absolute home runs. Every dish was flavorful, perfectly cooked, and memorable—plus the dessert was just as impressive. Truly one of the highlights of our trip. Crossing my fingers we return next year so we can come back!

I’ve been meaning to rave about this place for a couple weeks now. I came in on a Tuesday, got in line and Lyndi the bartender came and took my order behind the counter. I order a popper (made it into a sandy… delicious) and got some Mac n cheese. I sat at the bar and got my drinks but from who else Lyndi! She was great, very personable, had a great attitude and never seemed to stop moving taking care of me and her tables. You don’t see service like hers very often anymore. Kudos to Lockhart and Lyndi! I’ll be coming back a lot more!
