If you are looking for that classic, nostalgic Chinese-American comfort food in San Jose, Lock Chun is the spot. I’ve been exploring the local scene as a Guide, and this place really hits the mark for quality and portion size.
The Food:
We ordered the Shrimp with Mixed Vegetables and the Beef with Broccoli combos.
• Shrimp & Veggies: The shrimp were huge and snappy, and the vegetables (especially the broccoli and zucchini) were perfectly crisp-tender, not mushy at all.
• Beef with Broccoli: The beef was tender and the sauce had that perfect savory glaze.
• The Sides: Both plates came with a generous portion of Lo Mein and a crispy Egg Roll. The noodles have great texture and aren’t overly greasy.
The Vibe:
It’s a straightforward, no-frills environment which is exactly what you want from a neighborhood staple. The service was quick, and the food arrived piping hot.
Overall:
Solid 5 stars for the value and consistency. This is definitely my new go-to when I’m craving a reliable combo plate!

I come here for their weekday lunch special, which is a pretty good deal for the quantity they serve. I eat less since I’m on a diet, so this meal is equivalent to two when it comes to me. For big eaters, it’s plenty, and for regular eaters, you’ll get some leftover to take home. My favorite is their lemon chicken! Sweet and soft. I will come back for this entree any day.

Stumbled on this gem by accident and it couldn’t have been any better.

The staff was kind, friendly and attentive. The food was absolutely amazing and portions were quite generous! We ordered the following:

.Creme cheese won tons: They were deliciously crispy and filled with a very rich cream cheese filling. You could definitely taste the scallions which I personally love.

.Hunan chicken: Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, tossed in an amazing hunan sauce. Not spicy despite the peppers. Couldn’t get enough of it, I literally had to stop myself from just continuing to eat until I was finished.

. Combination chow main: We decided on chicken and beef, again an amazing choice. The noodles were exceptionally prepared in a great sauce, they didn’t need any soy sauce or anything, they were perfect.
The beef was tender but not soggy, cooked to perfection.

I’m obsessed with this place, looks like they do a lot of take-out so don’t hesitate to try it out! I will definitely be back, best Chinese restaurant I’ve found in the area!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ All five stars !

We just found our new favorite Chinese food spot! We ordered the veggie chow mein, chicken chow mein, egg fried rice, potstickers and broccoli beef — and everything was absolutely delicious. The flavors were so good, and the portions were generous. They even gave us wontons, which was such a nice surprise! One thing we really appreciated is that they serve the food in the classic Chinese takeout boxes — we’ve been looking for a place that still does that, and it made the experience feel extra authentic. Definitely coming back soon! Highly recommend this spot ♥️♥️

The staff was very nice even when we unknowingly stayed past their closing time.

Moo shu chicken – was a classic. It was slightly heavy on the lettuce and liquidy, but came together well with the wrapper. The restaurant was nice enough to give us a few extra wrappers.

Broccoli beef – this is a staple of Chinese takeout places and Lock Chun definitely does it well. Crispy broccoli and tender beef came together well

Szechuan pepper chicken – a good level of spice, may need to ask for more spice based on taste. Chicken was tender. Expected it to be served with actual Szechuan peppers

Lock Chun beef – good flavor, tender beef, kind of similar taste as the other beef dish

Had a wonderful family dinner here. My fam is cantonese and they enjoyed everything. We reccomend the green beans, mushu pork, Mongolian beef, chowmien Hong Kong style. Our kids also loved it! We had 7 in our party and it took some tetris-ing to fit all the dishes on the table. We will come back!

Perfectly serviceable family run Chinese restaurant. Friendly staff, good selection and you’ll find most of your favorites on the menu. Parking can be hard to find if you arrive at peak times, might have to park on street. Interior no frills. Food leans toward American style.

Oh man.. I ordered to-go and it was not worth it. Their wonton soup is just little balls of meat in soggy dough. Not to mention, the soup is just a ton of soggy vegetables! The ratio of wonton to veggies is like 1:8. I couldn’t finish it without recooking it myself. The only redeemable item in my order was the salt and pepper prawns. I’m not sure if I just ordered the wrong things on their menu, but I don’t think I will be returning.

Average Chinese-American food. One lunch dish and a steamed rice on the weekend ran me over $32 with tax and tip, seems pricy.
