They were very accommodating of dietary restrictions. Definitely make a reservation. The meal was mixed: We agreed we had better Cullen Skink elsewhere, as the cream had split on this one. The fish pie was one of my favorite dishes of our trip! Others seemed less impressed with their dishes – the scallops in particular were disappointing.

Both myself and son like seafood so booked here as our first meal on Islay. The service was excellent and we asked if we could have the mussels that wasn’t on the starters but was as a main as starter portion. Very accommodating and really nice. The fish pie main and cheese board was both mega. Was introduced to the Islay Ale very good too.

Wanted to love this given the glowing reviews and that we went for our anniversary dinner. The staff were absolutely charming. The location is nice with a fantastic view onto the sea.
Unfortunately the food was really underwhelming. So much so that we wonder, maybe we caught them on a bad day and the chef was on holiday – because the food really didn’t match up to the gushing reviews. The starters were middling at best, but had the same undressed salad that the mains were served with. The real disappointment were the mains.
The only nice thing on the seafood plate were the scallops (so I am sure a scallop starter would be quite lovely). The crab and langoustines were overcooked and Bland. They kindly served bread but there were no juices / garlic&butter or oil to slather up as the crab and langoustines just seemed to be boiled with no further love. My partner only tried the steak and left the rest on the plate as it was overcooked and the meat quality just wasn’t up to par (really unusual, as the local meat in shops and restaurants has been a delight). But the lovely waitress saw the barely touched steak and comped the dish. The service and staff were really excellent, shame about the food.
I would like to think we just caught the restaurant on a bad day, but thought the honest review would be worth it in case it wasn’t and others were planning a special celebration there…

A very good example of “don’t judge a book by its cover”. I can highly recommend it – and by the way – good quality is never cheap. We had a perfect meal here with Scallops as starter and fish pie as main dishes. Both were perfect and with the very good service enjoyed a great evening.

We had scallops and a sea food plate with extra lobster. All the seafood was tepid/lukewarm, like it had been sitting around. Langoustine full of roe. Hugely disappointed. Overpriced and no apology from the chef. We couldn’t wait to leave. A £165 bill for one disappointing course for two people. Waitress gave us a free cheese course to take away. Would have been £22 for some small pieces of supermarket cheese. Be warned, ruined our first night on Islay.

Small, cozy and good restaurant with a very kind and service minded staff. The food was good and very tasty, but it was a bit expensive and the portion sizes was diffident from dish to dish. All in all I will definitely recommend it when you are visiting Islay – but remember to book a table in advance.
