On this trip, I had the gluten-free Chicken Milanese and it was divine! Two huge cutlets served with lightly dressed arugula and blistered tomatoes!
My partner (not gluten sensitive) got to indulge in the seven hour lamb Bolognese! I tasted the sauce and it was magic but when I asked the waiter if they had a gluten-free pasta option, he said unfortunately not. Too bad that this dish can’t be made to accommodate us gluten sensitive customers… As I would be sure to order this in the future but for now I have to pass. But if you are not gluten, sensitive, my partner, highly recommends ordering this!
We also started our meal with a beautiful beet salad… The waiter asked if we’d like the chef to prepare the salad on two separate plates, making it easier to enjoy and thought, how wonderful so we said sure! But when the check arrived, there was a $5.00 surcharge for that. Not complaining here, but just want you to be prepared in case it’s not something you would find of value for you and your dining partner.
Oh, and be sure to save room for the apple fritters on their dessert menu. Yes, these are gluten-free!! These are some of the best apple fritters I’ve ever had and I’ve had everything from gluten filled to gluten-free and these, by far, are the best!
Food quality alone isn’t enough when reliability and communication are critical.
We first inquired on Friday, July 25, and received a prompt, friendly response on July 26. Everything initially seemed great. We flew out in August to visit the area and eat at the restaurant in person. The food was great, there were 2 other onsite owners who answered our questions, helped us visualize what an event would look like, and specifically advised us to book with Mike… Which is why we felt confident moving forward.
After emailing Mike that we wanted to move forward and asking for next steps, he asked for our phone number and let us know we were officially “booked”. He told us final details did not need to be discussed or finalized until 5 days before the event! While final headcount may be due close to an event, 5 days out is not reasonable for initial planning conversations such as a rough cost estimate, menu style (seated vs. buffet vs. appetizers), or general expectations.
From that point forward, communication completely stopped despite my multiple follow ups:
– August 18
– October 27
– November 20
– In late November, I called the restaurant and was told my information would be passed along. On November 30, I finally received an email suggesting a phone call to finalize details, which I responded to within one hour. After that, I followed up again on:
– December 4
– December 10
– I also called on December 10 and left a voicemail. I received a brief callback later that day, but we were unable to hear each other and the call disconnected. I immediately called back and followed up by email, but never received a response.
This ultimately left us scrambling to find a new venue about one month before our event, which was incredibly stressful and completely avoidable.
What made this especially difficult is that this restaurant had already been listed on our wedding invitations and wedding website, based on being told we were reserved. If priorities changed or availability shifted, that communication never happened. Regardless of contract status, a conversation would have allowed us to plan accordingly. Instead, the lack of communication created unnecessary stress.
The food itself was great, but communication and reliability are critical when booking a wedding related event. I would strongly encourage couples to ensure expectations are clearly confirmed in writing to avoid the situation we encountered.
***UPDATE*** (IN RESPONSE TO OWNER’S REPLY)
I documented every outreach attempt in my review with specific dates because communication was the central issue we experienced. From August through December, I sent multiple follow up emails and left voicemails after being told we were “officially booked” and that details would be discussed closer to the event. Aside from a brief exchange at the end of November and one ATTEMPTED phone call in December that immediately disconnected and was never followed up on, those follow ups went unanswered.
Regarding a deposit: we were never provided with a contract, invoice, or deposit request despite repeatedly asking for next steps. Had that occurred, we would have happily moved forward or adjusted plans accordingly.
As for reviews, I did not ask anyone to “attack” this business. Friends and family involved in our wedding planning left reviews based on the stress and disruption they witnessed firsthand when we were forced to find a new venue roughly one month before our event.
If there was concern that communication had stalled, a check in in December or even the week of the wedding would have clarified the situation. Instead, no follow up occurred, resulting in a breakdown in communication at a critical time.
This review reflects our genuine experience and is intended to help other couples ensure expectations and next steps are clearly confirmed in writing early on.
Great place for a group get together and especially appreciate the lovely outdoor seating availability!
