Such a cozy neighborhood place with great service and fresh, delicious lobster. The flavor really comes alive. Absolute perfection. My wife and I loved everything about it. Loved it. Highly recommend! ✨
There are 3 in our family, it was Saturday at 6p- busy restaurant but not full.
The lobster tacos and the Maine Roll were a 10- great stuff! Sadly, the “Double Lobster Tail” was a 3, at best. I think the videos explain the “why”. Please note the $30 for the double lobster tail which was undoubtedly MICROWAVED!
Service- Kat at the bar was phenomenal but I think she was helping the two waitresses out because of inexperience maybe? We had to go to the bar for 2 of the 3 beers we ordered as the waitresses failed to pick them up. We were never checked on- not once- except by Kat. Just to make it fun, I timed how long it took to get our bill to pay after the three of us had clearly finished our food- 14 minutes and that was only because we had to stop one of the waitresses and ask for our tab.
Great concept, half the food was good, but I don’t see us going back.
Their new menu adds a lot of Southeast Texas flair to a list that had previously featured a lot of New England and Californian favorites. Their crawfish queso had the perfect blend of cheesiness and spice mixed with a ton of crawfish tails. It was served with hand cut tortilla chips that they make fresh daily. Becca and I loved the cajun/tex-mex vibe of the queso, and it didn’t take long for it to disappear.
We also tried a couple other starters that really highlighted their attention to quality. Their new chicken tenders are pickle-brined and hand battered, and absolutely melt in your mouth. I don’t think I’ve ever had a more ‘tender’ (ha) piece of white meat chicken my life. I know they offer a lot of different sauces to accompany their chicken, but Becca and I opted to dip them in that amazing crawfish queso instead. I’d go back for that combo alone haha.
Even though I’m not a big fried seafood guy, we had to try some of their JUMBO fried gulf shrimp and their fried fish sandwich. Super crisp and deceptively light and airy. Everything fried seafood should be. Their happy hour portion of shrimp would be the perfect salty side kick to a couple beers at the bar. The fish sandwich used the same batter as the shrimp and was fried to perfection. The bang bang sauce on the sandwich is the perfect blend of tang and spice and really highlighted the savory flavor of the fish.
You can’t come to a place called Lobster and Beer and not try the lobster. So Becca and I tried two different kinds of lobster rolls: Connecticut and Maine. The problem with lobster rolls in the Houston area is that they are usually 35 dollars and tiny ass hell. Surprisingly, these ones were reasonably priced, and packed to the gills with lobster meat. The hint of lemon cut throught the mayonnaise of the Maine roll perfectly, and it was such a refreshing treat after eating fried food. I wish I had an opinion on the Connecticut roll but my wife demolished it before I could even look at the plate. She at least hit me with a “mmm delicious” afterwards.
I also grabbed a beer from Galveston Bay Brewing while I was there. Their beers are always crisp and refreshing, and are a great pairing with seafood. However, the star of the bar was the “My Own Worst Enemy” cocktail that Lauren made for us. It’s a mezcal drink with hibiscus and citrus juice, and holy crap I’m addicted. A perfect blend of smoke and citrus that I didn’t know was even possible. I can’t wait to go back for happy hour for that one.
Overall, Lobster and Beer seem to have figured it out. The addition of some Texas flair, and their focus on quality food and drink impressed us immensely. They are kinda tucked away in the Bayway Village shopping center, but its well worth seeking it out if youre in the mood for amazing seafood and drinks.
The service was friendly, easy-going and helpful when we needed help deciding. Inside is nicely decorated with what I consider perfect lighting, but we preferred the adorable outside area. They did the best with having to work with a plaza setting and it came out great!
The prices are also a reason for 5 stars. Incredibly fair and even with up north… especially because they give a proper amount of meat, unlike Cousins food trucks. Don’t get me wrong, Cousins is awesome but their portions have shrunk and they’re not always around when you want them.
Thank you Lobster and Beer so insanely much for opening here! This lobstah-loving Masshole is truly thankful.
