In December 2015, lloyd decided to open his first brick & mortar location after being in the food truck game since 2010. After becoming Buffalo’s first food truck, lloyd quickly grew to a fleet of 4 trucks in 5 years. After appearing on CNBC’s Restaurant Startup in February 2015, lloyd announced he’d open his first Taco Factory, combining the food truck atmosphere with a full service craft cocktail bar on Hertel Avenue. Expanding on a street style taco & burrito menu featuring organic black beans & antibiotic/hormone free meats, owners Pete & Chris added Quesadillas, side salads & specialty offerings to the menu. With a strong focus on food quality, lloyd continually expands the realm of what can be placed inside of a corn tortilla.

It pains me to do this, but again the drunken chicken quesadilla was almost inedible due to the salt. I hope someone from the team sees this as the recipe must have changed for it to have this much salt in every bite.

Unfortunately I have to amend my review… I had the drunken chicken quesadilla and the food was too salty for my tastes. I’ve had it before at the Hertel location and it was not salty in this way. I will be back, I hope that someone sees this and take my feedback into consideration
The “Big Lloyd” itself is a nod to classic American flavors wrapped in a tortilla. Packed with local pasture-raised ground beef, cheddar, romaine, pickles, onions, a special sauce, and a sprinkle of sesame seeds, it’s like a burger and a burrito had a delicious lovechild. The beef was juicy and well-seasoned, with that melt-in-your-mouth quality you’d hope for from a place that prides itself on hormone- and antibiotic-free meats. The special sauce—tangy with a hint of sweetness—tied it all together, while the pickles and onions added a crisp, zesty punch. The sesame seeds? A subtle touch that made me smile, like a little wink to its burger inspiration.
Size-wise, it’s hefty—I’d call it “uncomfortably large” in the best way possible. The flour tortilla held up admirably, though I’ll admit I needed a fork to tackle the last few bites as it started to unravel under the weight of its own glory. The romaine and cabbage (a Lloyd signature) gave it a fresh crunch that balanced the richness, and I couldn’t resist adding some pickled reds on the side for that extra zing—pure genius, those onions.
At $12.29, it’s not the cheapest burrito in town, but it’s a meal that justifies the price with its quality and sheer volume. The Elmwood spot was buzzing with families and folks grabbing drinks at the sprawling bar, and the service was friendly and quick despite the crowd. I didn’t venture upstairs (it’s not fully open yet, I hear), but I’m already plotting a return for when that patio overlooking Elmwood comes to life in the spring.
If you’re in Buffalo and craving something bold, flavorful, and a little unconventional, the “Big Lloyd Burrito” at Lloyd Taco Factory on Elmwood delivers. It’s not just a burrito—it’s an experience. 4.5 stars—docked half a point only because my table manners suffered trying to eat it!
