I was craving loco moco, so I decided to go to a Hawaiian BBQ spot I usually visit next to Kohl’s in Pleasant Hill. I normally order the chicken katsu there and it’s delicious. Unfortunately, they were closed due to their machines being down.
I did a quick map search and found another Hawaiian BBQ just 6 minutes away, located at 1749 Contra Costa Blvd, Pleasant Hill, CA, so I decided to give it a try.
The woman who greeted me was very nice, and I ordered a loco moco to go. I live about 12 minutes away, so I went straight home to eat.
I’ve had loco moco from many Hawaiian BBQ spots throughout the Bay Area and was a frequent visitor to the Vallejo and Pinole locations—Vallejo, in my opinion, has the best loco moco. So I know what it should taste like.
When I started eating, I immediately noticed the gravy tasted different than usual. It wasn’t very good and had a slightly sour taste. I tried to brush it off, thinking maybe the gravy was made differently, or maybe the chef didn’t know how to make gravy like how it’s supposed to be made and continued eating.
Later that night, I developed a stomach ache, which I’m confident came from this meal. I considered throwing up to get it out of my system, but I HATE throwing up, so I took Pepto-Bismol instead. By the next morning, my stomach was still hurting, and it completely ruined my Sunday morning plans, including a trip to the farmers market. I’m thinking to force myself to throw up but I really don’t want to, so I might just deal with the tummy ache till it goes away.
I haven’t gotten sick from restaurant food in a long time, so this is really disappointing. Unfortunately, due to this experience, I won’t be returning to this location.

Excited to have another Hawaiian bbq restaurant to add to our rotation. L&L is always consistent with generous portions, good flavor, and healthy options. The service at this particular location is great, it’s small but the folks behind the counter are always friendly and the service is always quick.

Always love coming here during lunch break, the service is great and the staff are very friendly. I order my lunch from the app and they have it ready when I arrive. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants yummy food.

Courteous clerks. Quaint atmosphere. Food not so much. Boarders on both extremes. Either too salty or no flavor. Beef spare ribs are bone and gristle. We’ve ordered from both locations. Hasn’t changed. Food isn’t like we had on the islands. My depend on your tastes. It’ll be a while before we try again.

I’m so happy to have L and L back! There used to be one on Crescent Drive(a couple blocks away) and I was heartbroken when it shut down. I moved away for a while and imagine how awesome of a surprise it was to see my favorite Hawaiian BBQ spot has returned just before I moved back!
The employees are all super friendly, the food is always cooked to perfection, and the dining area is kept clean and tidy.
The only thing that would make this place better is if they would extend their hours on Friday/Saturday nights. A lot of other restaurants in the area close at 9pm on weeknights and 10pm on weekends so I was surprised/bummed to see that they close “early” in comparison.

I ordered the garlic fish with brown rice and salad. I t filled me up. Restaurant is decent. There’s sit down tables.
