What’s known at L&L Hawaiian Barbecue®
Plate lunch – also known as “the state food of Hawaii” – dates back to wage laborers in 19th century sugar plantations and pineapple fields, who brought rice and other leftovers to work in compartmentalized tins. Lunches were often shared, resulting in a harmonious mix of home recipes from Japan, China, the Philippines, Portugal, Korea, and even New England. Use your cursor to explore the ingredients above and watch your appetite build as you discover the delicious possibilities inherent in our uniquely delicious, contemporary Hawaiian Barbecue plate lunch.
Island-themed fast-food chain whose menu features traditional Hawaiian plate lunches.

We just got back from Hawai’i where they had L&L everywhere, so when I saw there was one in Annandale I got super excited. Unfortunately this was a pretty disappointing experience. They were short-staffed so it took 40 minutes to get our lunch. We ordered the loco moco, but it was so salty we had to send it back. The garlic shrimp had no garlic on it, and when we did get a side of the garlic butter, the butter it tasted weird. My aloha saimin broth was ok… The broth was good but the noodles tasted like dirt and the egg was burnt. I had ordered a side of garlic rice, but only received plain rice. The musubi was also not prepared properly it was rolled in seaweed instead of stacked and wrapped. We said something to the staff and they were willing to comp our meal, but we at least wanted to pay for what we got. I recommend the owners have someone come from Hawai’i to show these folks how the food should be prepared.

Atmosphere was excellent. I loved that there were activities outdoors and ample seating. The food and the service were meh. Everything I ate lacked depth of flavor, unlike authentic Hawaiian food. I doubt I’ll try this restaurant again unless I’m in Hawaii.

Great looking spot. Ordered the BBQ chicken and BBQ beef short ribs! The ribs were delicious, as was the macaroni.
The chicken was salty, but that has potential to be fixed!

We grew up eating L&L. We’ve eaten at L&L in CA (where we grew up) Southern VA (we often go for work) and Tokyo, Japan (where we lived for over 5 years). Unfortunately, this location is the only one that misses the mark for us. The servers are friendly, but we waited for our food for over 45 minutes. When we got there, there was no line. We had to follow up twice since people who arrived minutes after us were almost done with their meals. Supposedly the kitchen was backed up which could be the case, but we watched people who ordered similar items that got their food faster than we did. Maybe the truth is that they missed our order? I would rather them tell us that was the case and apologize rather than their kitchen was backed up. We’ve always known L&L to be quite quick to serve.
This location doesn’t have any mini plates. They just have bowls. Did L&L get rid of mini plates?! We were just in another L&L location and they still had mini plates. This was so disappointing.
The bbq short ribs was tasty but the chicken katsu was not. There was no flavor. The prices are much more expensive in this location, but I get it. We’re in Nova.
The atmosphere was okay but it was so cold. It was so hot outside but when you come in, its freezing. Maybe we sat below or near an AC vent… I don’t know… but I had to get a jacket in the car to wear to be comfortable with the indoor temperature.
We *might* give them another chance to see if operations and food quality gets better. We will update this review accordingly.

The service was good but I was disappointed with the lack of flavor in the musubis! i ordered a trio — chicken katsu, spam, and a sweet soy sauce chicken flavor(?) but they were just a bit oily and didn’t taste like much. which is sad bc i love musubis. the rice was also meh. the fries i ordered were hot and yummy tho.
would be willing to come back if they revamped their menu items.
food is 3/5 stars
service is 4/5 stars

L&L Hawaiian BBQ exceeded my expectations in every way. The food was not only fresh and delicious but also generously portioned, offering great value for the price. The restaurant’s atmosphere was inviting, with a clean and welcoming vibe that made dining a pleasure. Additionally, the boba area and diverse drink options at the bar added an extra layer of enjoyment to the experience. Whether you’re craving mouthwatering Hawaiian BBQ or simply seeking a cozy spot to unwind, L&L is the place to be. Highly recommend!

A really nice spot for Hawaiian food with a great atmosphere.
I had Aloha Saimin and Chicken katsu curry and both were quite good. The chicken katsu curry has a pretty large portion size, the chicken tastes quite good, though it had a bit too much breading, and the curry sauce had a savory flavor. The katsu sauce is really flavorful, even better than the curry sauce, in my opinion. The Aloha Saimin has a really light tasting broth, with high quality ingredients in the bowl, though it feels like they don’t add a lot of portions.
The atmosphere is really chill and spacious giving off the air of a nice hangout joint. The service is also really nice and feels super casual. The vibes feel very casual and bar-esque.
Would definitely say its worth dining here.

Our first trip but definitely not our last. My spouse was born in Japan but moved to Hawaii at an early age and lived on Oahu through elementary school. We go back often and she misses Hawaiian food. Until now, the only brick and mortar Hawaiian food restaurant closed down per pandemic. We really loved this place. They have authentic plate lunches. I love kalua pork and theirs was excellent. My spouse had chicken katsu and our son the beef, all great. Extra large servings. But wait, there’s more. Inside they had Garden Social for adult beverages with an excellent selection of beer on tap. I had my favorite Kirin. There is also Sugar Tiger that sells all different types of tea. So three in one. Can’t wait to go back. Check it out.

We arrived around 730pm on a weekday and was able to order quickly. Staff were extremely friendly and food came out in a reasonable time. We ordered the BBQ beef and Chicken Katsu. Both were very tasty with massive portion sizes, and the katsu was fresh and crispy! Atmosphere is great with both indoor and outdoor options for seating.

I’m loving the food so far. I got the BBQ chicken platter and musubi. The price seems a bit much until you see the portions. This will definitely last me a few meals.
The website you order through works fine, but I hate that I had to create a log in.
