Liuzza’s By The Track is your quintessential New Orleans, neighborhood joint.
The restaurant, as it exists today, has been family-owned and operated since 1996. The building, located just off Esplanade Avenue near City Park, is a historical landmark, dating back to the 1930s.
LBTT is just a few quick steps from the New Orleans Fairgrounds, the site of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, making us the unofficial pre-JazzFest headquarters. Festival goers come from far and wide from across the globe to enjoy a Bloody Mary and practice beers on their way into the Fest. On the way out, they come back for a cup of Gumbo and our signature BBQ Shrimp Po-Boy.
Casual Creole tavern for gumbo, slow-simmered corned beef & signature BBQ shrimp po’ boys.

There is a reason why this place is famous. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is 10/10. We loved the waitress, Kaysee. She told us that the gumbo here has been made by the same man for 30 years. I got the BBQ shrimp po’boy that was more like a sweet BBQ po’boy. It’s a little oily but worth it! The apple crisp with a la mode which was AMAZING!! Definitely recommend the oyster po’boy, the gumbo, and the Ruben corned beef and the fried green tomatoes also.

A culinary landmark in New Orleans. Exceptional shrimp and sausage gumbo with deep rich flavors and perfectly cooked shrimp. The roast beef po boy comes either sliced or debris, and I highly recommend the debris. New Orleans still has the best bread for po boys.

More bar than restaurant. I walked in and wasn’t greeted and had no idea what to do. Just stood around like an idiot. They were very busy so I’m not knocking any points for that, nor for not being given a fork or napkins with my entree (I eventually got them towards the end of my meal). The servers were extremely nice and more than accommodating to the best of their ability so they still get five stars.
Got the BBQ shrimp poboy. It’s not a traditional poboy – more, um, elevated I guess? It’s wet. Not really even a sandwich, but still good. The sauce was delicious. Everything else was alright. I got some gumbo too and that wasn’t anything special in my opinion.

Everything it’s supposed to be! Sorry for the partially eaten pic, that’s the hot sausage poboy which was surprisingly fat. Didn’t think I’d like it like that, but it was very good (and the hot sausage is made locally a couple of blocks away). The fries were outstanding. The shocker was the fried green tomatoes! Why is no one talking about this surprise party?! We went days ago, and my mouth is watering thinking about the tangy pop of flavor in every bite of those! Everything is so fresh. Food was a bit slow but well worth it. Tiny, lively place. And I can’t not mention our server Kaysee, she was lovely and took good care of us.

The food superb. Pickled fried okra is a new favorite! The bbq shrimp po-boy was out of this world good! The atmosphere warm and welcoming a real neighborhood vibe. Everyone who visits NOLA needs to stop by Luizza’s By The Track.

Amazing food, excellent nice server, and local/reasonable price. The BBQ shrimp is incredible, the gumbo was excellent and the fried okra was delicious (with a homemade ranch). Would strongly recommend!

This place seems to have an outsized reputation for some pretty mediocre food and an okay vibe. As a corner bar or restaurant I don’t really understand the attraction—oyster shells in your poboy or watery shrimp, well, once was enough. The BBQ shrimp is just dumped on a roll, not sure I understand it. Different strokes I suppose. Verti Marte is a much better sandwich. Unless you’re a “New Orleans” person that has some generational attachment to this place seek another place for a decent meal.

Got a bowl of gumbo and the fried green tomatoes. The fried green tomatoes were amazing!!! Would highly recommend those. The gumbo was OK as well, not my favorite — was a bit on the thinner side. The service was great! It’s a small place and the tables do tend to fill up quickly, so might have a little bit of a wait.

the po’boys were excellent; stuffed full of shrimp and seasoned well. the fried okra and green tomatoes (pickled?) were also tasty as appetizers. the crawfish etouffe (sp), however, was probably my favorite dish that we ate; the seafood tasted really fresh and brought nice sweetness to the otherwise well spiced soup. our consensus is that the food has lived up to the social media hype!
what really set apart the restaurant was their willingness to provide additional po’boy recommendations from rival restaurants during our po’boy crawl. secrets which will only be revealed if you go and eat from this place
also they have slot machines for non underage (overage?) patrons. great for spending the extra cash you have from eating a delicious and affordable po’boy instead of fine nola dining.
finally thank you and sorry for allowing us to loiter at your place well after our meal while we fixed our last minute travel plans due to the winter storm.

Not a lot of tables, so a wait is probably normal. Seems like a good mix of locals and foodies from out of town.
Our server was very friendly. Food was great. I will go back to try other dishes the next time we’re in town.
I do not know what gumbo is supposed to taste like, but we loved the crawfish stuff. Nice deep flavor. Probably our favorite dish after eating at 6-8 restaurants. The gumbo seemed watered down in comparison.
I got their signature dish and learned what New Orleans BBQ shrimp is. Not bad, but it was not what my ignorant self was expecting. I saw many locals eating one of the fried shrimp Po boys. My girlfriend got the catfish which was delicious. Nice bold flavor with a crunch.
