My first exposure to Little Thai Cottage was at the Vista strawberry festival. I love Thai sticky rice, but have become increasingly allergic to mangoes. So when we saw them at the Vista strawberry festival offering Thai sticky rice with strawberries I had to have it. It was so good I was already waiting until the following year to have it again. We ran into Little Thai Cottage just now at the Golden Door Makers Market. I mentioned that I was allergic to mango but loved their sticky rice with strawberry, so the owner went into the market to get strawberries so I could order the sticky rice I can’t express how thankful I am for this thoughtful, kind gesture. 100% a repeat customer because of the amazing people at Little Thai Cottage and the amazing food is the icing on the cake.

Purchased at an event in bates nut farm. Everything is made to order so we expected a 30 or 40 min wait time. Turns out it took 1 hour and 15 mins of waiting after ordering 2 pad thai plates. Ruined our outing as the event only had 3 hours remaining. If we had known the wait time before ordering we could have planned around it. The owners seem nice, but they were quick to ignore me when I asked for sauce lids and they never once apologized for the long wait time. This business needs to figure things out still. I hope they do, things were busy today. Overall the wait time from the line to eating our food took about 2 hours… for 2 pad thai plates… the wait time is atrocious here.

Being a huge Thai food fan, I am constantly disappointed at what I find in restaurants here in the SF Bay Area. (I know, right?)
Though not expert by ANY means, I do better making it at home. But it’s just not the same.
Imagine my surprise, making the rounds at a farmer’s market in the middle of the desert, and taking a chance on Little Thai Cottage….only to be SO HAPPY to find the complex flavors and textures that I love in GOOD Thai food.
I had the Drunken Noodles with Shrimp and my husband had the Fried Rice (each little rice grain perfectly textured!)
I just learned that they will be at our farmer’s market (Borrego Springs, where we visit regularly), and I am ridiculously excited. The only way I could be more excited is if they’d open a restaurant there.
Oh, and they were so gracious. I really look forward to visiting their spot as often as possible.

Set up outside Calico Cidery – we’re local to Julian and the wife was very happy (by far the best takeout up here she’s had in a long time). what a treat to have it in the middle of the mountains!!! fantastic tea and speedy service. couldn’t be better, hoping mangoes are in season for the sticky rice soon 🙂
