The ambiance is just okay—nothing fancy, but perfectly acceptable for a casual sushi outing. When you’re craving sushi and want something quick, filling, and affordable, Little Sakana gets the job done.
We had to wait about 50 minutes, which I understand since it was a Friday night, so that part wasn’t a huge issue. However, once seated, we were placed right in the middle of the sushi bar area and we were the only table there so definitely felt very awkward. It honestly felt like we were in the way the entire time while other tables had much better seating. After waiting that long, we didn’t want to ask to move, but it definitely affected the experience.
The food quality also didn’t seem the same compared to the Mira Mesa location. I’ve had much better experiences up north the fish tasted fresher there. This time, some of the fish had a noticeably “fishy” taste or the fish pieces were WAY too big for the portion, which was disappointing. Almost felt like half ass presentation. Just my opinion for paying that amount.
Service was just okay nothing terrible. Again, compared to the Mira Mesa location, the service up north is much better.
Spending $101 for this experience just didn’t feel worth it. Unfortunately, I probably wouldn’t return to this location.
Service is great. We came here on Valentine’s Day. There were 4 groups ahead of us, but we were seated in less than 5 minutes after arriving. There’s a waitlist tablet at the restaurant, you can check-in when you get there.
There’s plenty of parking, but it’s a busy area so be prepared to look for parking especially on weekends.
The food was just as good as the service. Great quality and quick. What stood out for me was the nigiri and secret menu items including; salmon and tuna belly nigiri. I also loved their take on the ex boyfriend nigiri which is salmon with crab underneath instead of rice.
The rice to fish ratio is the perfect size. It’s small so you don’t get full right away.
Ambiance is big and loud. Lots of tables and room for strollers, but it’s quite snug when it’s busy.
It’s only $30 for AYCE lunch & $38.99 for AYCE dinner.
I love how all the employees greeted us when we got there and left. Shout out to our awesome server Mai for taking great care of us!! 10 out of 10 experience. I highly recommend.
