My first time here was last year at closing time and there weren’t very many options. But we returned today as soon as they opened – surprisingly there were quite a few folks waiting in line.
Between the two of us, we shared the apple hand pie, vegetarian savory bun, cardamom roll and the ham and cheese croissant. The croissant was super flakey, the bun was very light and the filling was quite nice, the apple hand pie was very well done, not too sweet and with apple filling all the way through. The cardamom roll was my favorite of the lot – the flavor is very well balanced, it’s not too sticky and not too sweet either, very flakey too!
Overall I was very surprised at how good everything was – not something I was expecting!

We had to try this bakery while in the area. Absolutely could not have been happier with our experience! We were greeted by the owner who spent a little time out of his obviously busy schedule to talk about bread making with me.
We bought a loaf of the sprouted wheat bread (which was Amazing) as well as some sweet and savory croissants a scone and some cookies. All were delicious and none went to waste. You won’t be disappointed!

I was excited to try this box of desserts, but unfortunately it didn’t quite meet my expectations. The carrot cake was on the dry side and I missed the usual moist texture and warm spices like cinnamon that typically make it stand out. The croissant also wasn’t as fresh and flaky as I had hoped. The highlight for me was definitely the brownie, which had good flavor and texture.
Since I arrived right at closing time, I didn’t see any napkins or a disposable spoon available, which made enjoying the desserts a bit inconvenient. Another thing I found uncomfortable was being prompted on the payment screen to leave a tip, even though the order was simply packed to-go. For $16 for three pastries, I expected a more flavorful and polished experience overall.

There are several vegetarian options, including quiche and rolls. The long line caught our attention, and we had to check it out. It’s definitely worth it, even though it was quick, even with the line.

After grabbing a cup of coffee down the street, I stopped by Little Red Hen Bakery for a pastry. It’s a small shop and I wish I tried the bread. I got a Cardamom Roll. It was sweet and good. A little on the harder side as far as texture. Cute spot to sit outside and look towards the water.

Sara and the bakers at Little Red Hen were able to complete our vision of having a croquembouche at our Whidbey wedding! It wasn’t something they normally do but they did a small trial for us and incorporated our feedback in the final version and it was perfect! The baker even added flowers in our wedding colors. Oh and their baked goods at the shop are great too!

I asked the cashier for some recommendations of any popular items they still may have left (it was 30 mins til closing) and I ended up getting the almond croissant (with 27 layers!) and a cinnamon roll. Only thing I wish was asking for extra frosting cause it was so so good I could just eat it plain. Both were still delicious the next day. Everyone was very kind and the area is great to walk around, like exploring the wharf. I hope to come back soon!

Nice little bakery in Coupeville near the water. hey have a good amount of pastries to choose from as well as loaves of bread. There’s a nice little parking lot right next to the bakery. There are also lots of shops to walk around and check out after you get some pastries from here.

We buy our bread and pastries here and send as many people as possible. This is a place that grows their own grain, mills it, and bakes it. All of their break is sour dough based and I can eat it! Im gluten intolerant so avoid gluten but this bread is made from. Heritahe grains.
Their pastries are spectacular! Go early!!
