Stopped into Little Chef and ordered the Veggie Benny, and honestly—so good. The plate came out looking insanely comforting: perfectly runny yolks under a thick, velvety blanket of hollandaise, plus sautéed veggies tucked in there for flavor and color. The hollandaise was the standout for me—super smooth, rich, and not overly tangy.
The hash browns were crisp on the outside and soft inside, and the whole dish felt like the kind of breakfast that just makes your day better.
The environment at Little Chef is simple and cozy—definitely on the tighter side, but in a way that feels homey rather than cramped. It has that classic small-spot charm where you can sit, enjoy your food, and relax.

No frills, just amazing food and an amazing staff!
Today Kelly was our server and she was amazing as always, along with her daughter Ella who works alongside her.
I will be back tonight, they do dinners on Tuesdays and they never disappoint! A true McHenry gem.

Small town service in a great old building. Stepping inside feels like a literal step back decades in time… This review is for the breakfast, which was no-nonsense and excellent. Veggie Benedict was quite delicious, and they also offer a ‘half’ option if you want one instead of two. Brilliant, as Benny’s really dont taste the same when leftover. Breakfast tacos were great as well. Very Americanized (link sausage) but still really good. The hash browns were tasty as well.
Prices were decent, not too high.
This spot caters to locals in a great way as there was a really nice cross-section of diverse groups. Some old timers, some hipsters, some local business owners, some girls outing… we never felt out-of-place or unwelcome (as some small-town breakfast spots can have that cliquey vibe). Lunch options as well. Would go back.

When my wife found the chicken an rice soup to have too much pepper and could not eat it on a soup and sandwich lunch, they offered no other item in it’s place. Usually drinks come withstraws. Not this time. No refill on the lemnsade either. Smoke sausage sandwhich with saurkraut on a bun, please don’t drenmch the bun with kraut juice. Boy, this place is slipping.

Went here for the first time today (10/12), and by 2:30, my boyfriend and I are both puking, cold sweats, and feeling faint. For the price, I’m very disappointed that we got sick from this food. We both got the biscuits and gravy combos, the hashbrowns were bland as ever, the sausage links weren’t cooked thoroughly, and the bacon tasted like microwave bacon. This will be the first and last time we go here.
This was the only thing we have ate today.

The food flavor and portion sizes were good and the environment conducive to conversation. Service was timely despite the busyness of the venue. No regrets.

This place was recommended by an Uber passenger that was going here for breakfast. I had Biscuits and Gravy and two Eggs over medium. The B&G were good and the Eggs were done correctly. I’ll come back when in the area.
