I barely said more than a few words to place a simple order, and there was absolutely no reason for the level of disrespect I was met with. There was no confusion, no complication, and no confrontation. The negativity was entirely unnecessary.
I understand that working in food service can be stressful. I worked in customer service for years myself, and I know firsthand that it isn’t always easy. However, stress does not justify treating paying customers with spite or contempt. Professionalism and basic courtesy are not optional — they are the minimum requirement for the job.
An employee who interacts with customers in this manner should seriously be reconsidered for a customer-facing role. Behavior like this damages the business and drives customers away. No one should feel uncomfortable or disrespected simply for ordering food.
I hope management takes this matter seriously and ensures that future customers are treated with the basic respect they deserve.
