I’ll start by saying the food is good. However, it doesn’t taste like authentic Haitian food. It feels more like an American attempt at Haitian cuisine.

I tried the mac and cheese, djon djon rice, chicken, chicken pâté, and pound cake. The mac and cheese tasted like standard American mac and cheese, which I assume was intentional rather than trying to make it Haitian-style. The djon djon rice was the most Haitian-tasting dish I had.

The chicken pâté was good, but it didn’t taste like the typical Haitian pâté. Haitians usually use vinegar and lime in their cooking, and in this case it felt like those flavors were used a bit too heavily.

Overall, the food is good and I would come here again. However, if you’re expecting very authentic Haitian flavors, it may not fully match what you’re used to.

I really really really wanted to like this restaurant. Don’t get me wrong service was nice, I was asked a few times was everything ok, I responded yes. I was asked how was the food, I responded it’s good, especially the Shrimp bombs…. I kinda played myself.
So I attended lunch for the Chicago Restaurant Week Special. In my mind I knew what I wanted… Appetizer: Scrimp Bombs, Entree:Oxtail Chili, Side Dish: Kreyol Greens….

The restaurant opens at 12pm, I arrived approximately 130pm. They were a little busy, the only seating was at the Bar that was available, so I agreed. Usually in don’t sit high due to nerve condition HOWEVER, I REALLY WANTED TO TRY THEM OUT. The sitting was cool.
The lady staff member was very friendly, upon taking my order she did make known that the Oxtail Chili was out and it would be about 30 minutes for it to come out. (I SHOULD’VE WAITED) but in place of that they were offering, what I thought I heard was “ The Chicken and Shrimp Gumbo” so I said ok I’ll take that, since I was hungry and didn’t want to wait. Along with that I had the Shrimp Bombs, Djon Djon and a lemonade ( blueberry flavor)….
The Shrimp was really good.
The Chicken Sausage Gumbo, I personally did not enjoy, it was full of Chicken Sausage, roux, and nice rice ratio. It just lacked something ( could be the shrimp and veggies I thought I was getting) lol
Djon Djon, was my first time trying because I like mushrooms… however it was a little on the dry side to me and wasn’t flavorful to me… reminded me of dry dirty rice with no season and peas.
Lemonade blueberry flavored was ok… it tasted like the ice cone syrup.

Once again, I did this to myself because I should’ve WAITED. I just wanted to enjoy my solo date, so I didn’t say anything to the staff, when they were asking is everything okay. I just got a to go container. .

I will try them again and maybe if what I want isn’t available I’ll just pass. My mouth was ready for the Oxtail Chili.

They are CASHLESS and automatically adds gratuity to the bill.

Definitely give them a try though. MY EXPERIENCE may differ from yours.

I was searching on Ubereats looking for a place that delivers oxtails. So many places serve them but are either very little, small servings or dry—BUT Lior’s?! I’m so glad I read the reviews and picked this spot because they’re so flavorful, decent sized and meaty! Mac n cheese and cabbage are fye, too! Don’t ever switch up, Lior’s!

I loved every single item. My friends and I tried a bunch of different items and they all delivered. My personal favorite: the goat pot pie… omg. Everything was perfect.

Arrived at the location at 4:48p with a goal of spending an hour before picking up my son from
School.

We were seated immediately since it was empty, however it took approximately 25 mins before we were approached by a server with an offer for a pâté since it was our first time here. We accepted. Received them within about 5 mins and then waited for the server to return for our orders. It’s been over an hour and we didn’t receive any food, a table touch about the wait, a refill on water or some consideration. Typing this as I wait for the server to allow a Payment for the drink I had and time to grab food from somewhere else

I’ve visited Lior’s a few times before, but this last experience was the most disappointing.

My son and I walked in while they were clearly open. We were seated, only to then be told they had a large party and couldn’t take anyone. Okay — I understand big parties happen. So I said that’s fine, we’ll just order to go. We were then told they weren’t taking takeout orders either.

There was nothing posted on the door, nothing online, nothing on Grubhub, and no sign indicating they were closed for regular service. If you’re not accepting customers due to a private event or large party, that needs to be communicated clearly before people walk in and sit down.

What made it worse was the tone. It felt dismissive — like whether or not they wanted our business that day was optional. As a paying customer who has supported this restaurant multiple times, that doesn’t sit right.

The food is good, but not good enough to justify treating customers like they don’t matter. Transparency and respect go a long way, especially in hospitality. If you’re open, be open. If you’re closed for an event, communicate it clearly.

I won’t be returning, and I’d strongly suggest calling ahead before going — because apparently “open” doesn’t always mean open.

Loved the food and ambiance. Definitely worth the drive. I had oxtails and Pate. Great portions for the tails and Pate was bomb . Unfortunately the service is not good and they charge a service fee — which further disassociates the server from severing. My server was nice but she left before I could order a drink. Didn’t comeback to check-in on me. She left the bill before I could order dessert. As I was leaving by she asked me if I was ok twice but… my plate was packed so I who cares at this point lol.

I’ll be back but I hope the service improves.
