We came for ramen. It was challenging to find this place, but it’s part of Sweet Octopus. Online the menu lists “build your own ramen” but this wasn’t on the physical menu. Luckily it was available still, so we did this.

The chicken in my ramen was incredibly dry. The speed at which the ramen came out, I expected it was probably sitting in a warmer, but some pieces were discolored and dehydrated. Literally inedible.

The broth is best described as bland. I ordered miso in my ramen, but the broth didn’t seem to have any in it. My partner didn’t get some of the ingredients she ordered.

The egg was advertised as seasoned, so one would expect the brown outer edges from a mirin/soy marinade, but the eggs looked like normal soft boiled eggs. To our surprise, they were seasoned, however only in vinegar. They tasted fermented and we’re quite frankly gross. I didn’t finish mine.

The wide berth of the bowls made the spoon constantly fall in, and the balance of broth vs ingredients felt wrong. It was hard to find the ingredients in the bowl.

Overall, some of the worst ramen I’ve had locally. Will not be returning.

Service was good. The cashier was friendly and helpful.

Lifting Noodles is located inside Sweet Octopus in downtown Duluth. Sweet Octopus operates 4 different restaurant brands inside, each with their own unique cuisine. I came here for the Ramen, but was tempted to get one of the Sushi Burritos which also looked good and is from the ‘Poki Burri’ brand.

I’m sure that the other food is spectacular here, but sadly, the Ramen was not. My half egg was overcooked. Compare my photo with the restaurant’s own photos. If you are serving just half an egg, then there is no excuse for it to be overcooked… since you can see the inside, right?

The pork cutlets were tough when they should be tender. I tried to force myself to at least finish all of them, since I hate wasting meat, but literally could not finish my third cutlet.

I don’t really know how else to describe it, but the Ramen noodles themselves were just meh, and the same quality that you would get from a package. The broth was also meh.

I’m trying not to be a spoiled brat and compare this Ramen place to some of the other incredible Ramen places I’ve eaten. On the other hand, I came here hungry, but couldn’t force myself to finish almost any of it.

On a positive note, the best part of my meal was the passion fruit ginger ale, which I highly recommend, but which you can probably find at the grocery store.

Sorry guys, I hate leaving bad reviews, but it just wasn’t good. : /

First visit, purchased two meals for takeout and they were both very good. The area has changed it was beautiful and simple. Now, with the shops, eateries, school, and same fountain, it’s all very good. I enjoyed walking around too.

Great food, had Spicy Ramen, one of the best Ramen I’ve had in my life. Moderately spicy and great flavour. Gyozo was a good add-on to the Ramen. Great ambience and good service, with some nice people. Had a good experience where the Ramen takes up the majority.

Food was ok. Kinda plain, not enough flavor and pricey for what we ordered with it being bland. Staff was very nice and friendly.

Ramen

I ordered the VILLAGE CLASSIC tonkotsu ramen.
The ramen broth was lukewarm, but the toppings and noodles were the same as those I’d get in Japan.

I cleaned up after myself after finishing my meal.

Served with the noodles were disposable chopsticks from JFC, a popular Japanese restaurant.
I think the quality is consistent.
