Located in the historic Caffey’s Inlet Life Saving Station No. 5, the renovated Lifesaving Station is Sanderling’s casual, three-meals-a-day restaurant celebrating southern coastal cuisine and regional, organic products indoors and out. Known for the “best breakfast on the Outer Banks”, the Lifesaving Station is a favorite Duck, N.C. restaurant. The menu changes seasonally, while the wine and beer lists are always impressive. We went in for dinner on Friday night before the bad weather was supposed to start. We just happened to be the only people there! We sat at the bar, and had an amazing experience. The service, the food, the atmosphere, all top notch. We each had an old fashioned cocktail, which was delicious! We also had the filet, which was cooked to perfection. The flourless chocolate torte was rich and decadent, and perfectly presented with a candle for my birthday This was not our first time here, and definitely won’t be our last. Highly recommend!

We wish that every staff member at the restaurant had Ethan’s work ethic. We’ve been coming here for years and we were always met with a smile, a clean table, amazing food and great service. This year things have been a little different… We had to clean up half of the bar for ourselves just to be able to have a place to sit and place our order. Thankfully, we were greeted by Ethan who went out of his way to serve us. He may only have been working here for 2 days but he was by far the best employee on this Saturday morning shift. You should hire more people who greet customers with a smile and have contagious energy. More people like Ethan.

Breakfast here is amazing and my favorite waitstaff member was definitely Michelle. The blue crab with Hollandaise sauce is the best! The morning manager today pitched right in and helped his team stay atop the flow of inbound customers. The evening shift needs twice the staff and more training on customer service. I waited 24 minutes before I opted to seat myself. I guess no one wanted me to do because the general manager was seated in the dining room. By then, the waitress had passed me six times, and the asst manager from PA passed me another 3 times. I even offered to seat myself. Another couple came and left after waiting line so long. At this point it’s has been 12 minutes for water placing my order as the original waitstaff didn’t do that upon seating. The asst manager just finished a 10 minute chat with seated guests leaving his team hanging and several waiting for their checks. Dawn tried to smooth things over, but the damage was done. For both breakfast and dinner this restaurant needs a host/hostess who stays at the front and is responsible for ringing up final bills. Breakfast service has been a steady 5 for several days, whereas dinner service was a 2 at best after 2 nights. The first night there were only two of us with tables but the waitress was so engrossed in conversation with the other table that she didn’t service both tables evenly. Good folks, hard working staff, good food, but customer service training is needed here. Especially because the service needs to be comparable to the image and cost associated with the resort.

Did breakfast on a Monday so we’re seated right away. It’s what you expect on a restaurant attached to a resort. Decent size portions though and prices are typical of tourist spots. Coffee was dark and hot, the way we like it. Our server was very attentive.
My other half ordered their 2 eggs breakfast combo. Came with thick sliced bacon baked right. I had their surfers omelet which was seasoned well.

Wow! I was NOT expecting such a lovely breakfast venue with fantastic menu, service, and views.
No idea what it’s like during busy season, but I imagine tough to get a table.
But during September, our party of four easily got a table at 8:39 on a Sunday.
All meals were beautifully presented and beautiful. We are locals and will definitely be back!

We went tonight for the Prime Rib night and needless to say, we know why it’s dead. The place needs a whole revamp. All we heard the entire evening is that our whole experience will be subpar because their building got hit by a lightning and it’s the system’s fault. What? I could not believe they’re even open.
They even blamed the lightning on why they couldn’t open the fireplace, the 2nd night that it’s been cold in Outer Banks, you can feel the draft in that restaurant.
I try and be reasonable but that whole attitude affected the entire dinner service. The prime rib got cold quickly, the server forgot about the au jus and had to request it. And it came out not hot at all. It’s not bad but it’s not the greatest food choice. You want people to drive to Sanderling, make it worthwhile.
I expected a lot from this place, this is attached to Sanderling. You can’t claim the fame of being #1 resort on Condé Nast when you lack on the F&B department. If nothing is working properly, close it. It’s not worth it.

Made reservations and informed them we had a person with a gluten allergy. The start was a little rough, with no one really knowing what options were availble with this restriction. But after our server running back and forth to the kitchen options were finally settled on . The meals were excellent, flavorful and well prepared.

We had an 11 top with 3 kids. We were seated in the upstairs dining area, by ourselves. Staff was very accommodating for the 2,4, and 6 year old. Food was a little pricy, but good. I ordered the daily catch, mahi mahi on a bed of large couscous and broccolini. I also ordered a side of Yukon gold potatoes with the thyme rosemary gravy on the side. (Special request) my fiance ordered the Smoked Chicken & Dumpling , Chicken Thigh | Dumplings | Vidalia Onion | English Peas | Sweet Corn | Thyme Velouté | Asiago Toast | Sauteed Brussels Sprouts with Onion & Honey.
Maybe a little over priced, but if you want a nice dinner in a quaint historical building, this is your place.

WOW, we’ve had an incredible meal here. The food is very delicious and we would come back here in an instant. The food is comforting, flavourful but not heavy, greasy or salty. Absolutely recommend trying the Fried chicken, calamari and the scallops, but I’m sure the rest of the food is just as delicious. Bon appetit!

2017-06-08 the waitress (Sabrina) was very nice and the breakfast was amazing! The sausage, grits, sunny side eggs, poached eggs, pancakes, bacon, wheat toast, biscuits, butter etc… tasted really good!
2017-06-06 the waitress (Monica) and dinner was amazing! I asked the waitress for any recommendations for the entree, she recommended the special, which was red snapper, coconut rice (which tasted like an Asian curry dish), vegetables (beans and longest cut mushrooms I ever had), some type of glaze, and something else at the bottom and it had lobster meat on 2 sticks; the entree was amazing, tasted really good! My wife had the steak and fries, she said the fries were cooked to perfection. The Caesar salad, bread and butter were all amazing as well! The Caesar salad had a large-sized crouton that looked like the same size as bread and you would have to eat/bite it like you were eating bread/toast (but you couldn’t cut it with a knife, because it was too hard). I also had the flourless chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream and that was amazing as well. This restaurant is on the resort and I definitely recommend this restaurant. Even though we were encouraged to make a reservation, there were many other tables between 6:15pm and 7pm, while we were there on a Tuesday night.
